: Who never saw their car before buying it?
02-05-2006, 09:55 AM
I was wondering who here bought their car "sight unseen"......I did. I went to the dealership trying to find it, and they told me they were cleaning it. I tried to see it, but it was in the detail bay. I saw it after all papers were signed, and it was legally "mine". MAN, was it worth it to wait......

I saw mine from quite a distance while being unloaded from a truck. Bought it and didn't know it had Recaro seating or HID's until I accepted delivery [cool]

id never do such a thing, no matter how new it is it could have blemishes and small scratches on the paint, when i bought my car i carfully went around the entire car multiple times to make sure everything was ok, of course i found a few marks that needed to be buffed out. Oh also the rear seat have a rip through it at the bottom towards the floor, it looked like someone was cutting of the plastic with an model knife and sliced through the fabric, so that had to be replaced and it was in a spot that would of got bigger over time. So you should really always check your car first before signing of the papers.

I kinda did. I had hunted all over my region for "the" car, and couldn't find it at the real close by dealers. Then I saw one online about an hour away, and asked my local dealer if they'd Trade for it. They said no (??) so I got in my car, called the dealer and said "I want this car, I'll be there in 45 minutes". Got there and the salesman I talked to had its keys and I took it out and bought it.
So I did see it I guess, but I knew I was buying it anyway before I was even in its state.

I 'kinda' did also. The dealership didn't have what I wanted on the lot so they had to do a search for it.
I didn't seem my FoFo.. it was at another dealer... so all the papers were signed before they got it in...
I could have / should have checked it very carefully before taking posession.... it had 113 miles and a mark on the headliner... but I was too excited...

saw mine - checked it inside and out - my dads always warned me about buying something without looking at it first and i didn't feel like gettin gipped

I ordered my car, than I went to another car dealer to test drive one similiar to what I had just bought.
02-05-2006, 01:33 PM
After test driving several 2004 and 2005 SES Foci, we ordered my 2006 ST. I had seen the SAP kit on a ZX3 in the showroom, and heard the Audiophile system in a friends SVT. I have also driven several SVT's. So, when we ordered mine, i'm like what the hell, and told the salesman to up it to ST spec. I figured it could only be better than an SES. So i never saw the "exact" car I was gonna buy, but I saw some like it.
02-05-2006, 01:47 PM
I never saw my new used 03 SVT. Reason being the guy selling it was from michigan and I'm in Indiana. I saw it right when I Got there and it has some problems with it but nothing I can't fix and def nothing major. I love it :)
02-05-2006, 02:09 PM
My SVT was the only car on the lot, so I jumped on it. I didn't really care. I still love it to this day.
02-05-2006, 02:44 PM
Does it count if I didnt really know I was getting the car, and my parents had it in the garage and I saw it when I went home? I had some say in what I wanted, but didn't get to pick it out.
02-05-2006, 02:55 PM
it counts i never saw mine i was in iraq i told my parrents to take 8g's out of my account and go buy me a car i called them a few days later and they said they said they were looking at an an 02 atx gold 4 door focus. It had 2000 miles on it in 03 when they were looking at it in 03. i asked what was wrong with it they sait it had been rearended i had them take it to the body shop that i used to work at and it all checked out so now im still driving it and no problems what so ever knock on wood.
Bought my second Focus without a test drive. The only time I saw it was when I pulled up to the dealership and saw it in the parking lot waiting. That was about it.
02-05-2006, 04:40 PM
I was looking for an used SVT 5 dr, and lets say it was a little harder that i though to find it.
I purchased my old focus from carmax and one I decided to look online.
Guess what.. They had one. About 3 miles from my house too!!!
Just like I wanted it too.
Went to the dealer and it was in the showroom. I love when that happens!!!
Went home, applied for a loan online, came back next day. And I freaking LOVE my car!!!
02-05-2006, 10:23 PM
I bought my ZX3 off Ebay, seeing only very few pictures of it. I asked a million questions and he was the only owner. I got a very good deal on it and nothing major wrong with it....only maintainence stuff. If I had to do it again, I probably woundn't. I worried too much about it and what if....that question was always there...what if...
02-05-2006, 10:30 PM
I purchased mine, drove 4hrs to get it and saw it for the first time.
It was the greatest feeling!
02-05-2006, 10:36 PM
I test drove a 2002 White ZTS and bought the SE that was on the showroom floor....After the test drive, I filled out the paperwork, and went home to sleep(I had just got off working 16 hours). The salesman called me an hour and a half later and told me I wasn't approved for that much and got me into the next step lower...I signed the paperwork the next day and they drove my car around for me...
I was kinda happy that I didn't get the one I drove....The power roof made it to where I couldn't fit in the car properly (I would have to "gangsta lean"). My car is not equipped and I am eternally happy they made that choice for me.

I purchased my current bike on Ebay and simply had to go by pictures and great communication with the owner. It was located in OH, about an hour and half south of me. Drove down with a buddy from work, took it for a spin while they waited and then rode it home. It was as advertised and I don't regret it one bit.
02-06-2006, 02:55 AM
i saw mine and inspected it like crazy. slight scratch makes on the dash and the plastic below the radio that kinda wraps around the bottem of the console, the tab was broken and a few scratches on the doors where a kick panel would be. oh also the plastic peice for the fuel reserve was missing. i got about 800 reduced for these little things and they gave me the plastiuc peice for the fuel reserve. plus my car was a comercial advertised car.. yah know the insainly cheap ones that sell really fast. it was marked origionaly 18,000 but we payed like 12,000 so it was a steal and pretty much payed cheaper then the loss when its drove off lot. but i still wish i would of got the stv... sigh... but i still love my car. the white was a killer turn on.
I purchased my car directly from the factory (ordered it) so I never seen it for months before I 'technically' got the car. I did see it a day before I actually got it but as mentioned, it was purchased before I ever seen an S2.....
02-06-2006, 02:52 PM
I came in with an ad in hand for an $8000 '05 ZX3 S, test drove, then bought. So I saw it before I signed, but really had never looked at Foci before plunking down the change.

I work here at a Ford dealership and wanted a new svt, well when i went looking, i knew they were going to be far and few between. I did a dealer locator and there were two new ones left in the state. I called the dealer that had the color (luckly there was one) i wanted. He told me what the car had as far as options (no moonroof and no traction control) and that was that. I had the paper work done over the phone and went down that evening after work and signed all the paperwork before i ever saw that car. When we were done, we walked out front and there she sat, right next to a brand new yellow Cobra.

I drove an SVT in the rain for 5 minutes in 2002, owned a 2001 LX for 8 weeks in 2003 (totalled in a 100% other guy's fault accident), then had to buy a car for less than a certain payment in July 2004. SVT Focus was the best option at that price, and in a year that would still get me great financing from my bank. Found it on Autotrader 5 hours away, talked to the guy once for 5 minutes and bargained him down to $11,750 on a 19K miles clean-in-the-pictures 2002 no-options SVT. Looked great in the pics, picke up my check from the bank and was in Chicago 2 days later. Looked it over, started it and drove it for 2 minutes and handed him the check.
He was so weirded out about how fast and matter of fact I was going that he checked my bank and took digital pictures of me and all the pertinent documents. Drove home happy, and I am still very happy.

I'd paid for 2/3 of it before I saw it. I ordered mine after driving a ZX4 for 3 months in October 2004. I didn't even realize that the motor was completely different than the one I drove when I ordered it. There was a crack in the liftgate plastic in the back that I mentioned to the salesperson... but then I was whisked off to work for 7 months. I doubt if she remembers about any of that any more. The more I soundproof it.. . the more I like it. I'll be even happier when it stops shaking from the flat spots on the tires, get the camber plates for the rear, and get some better tires/wheels.
02-06-2006, 09:29 PM
I almost ordered mine, when I wasn't finding what I wanted. But I'm waay too impatient to wait the 6-8 weeks I was quoted. Plus I was concerned with there not being the 3k rebate once I took delivery (in hindsight that's silly, since the rebate went on for Several months after I bought mine, at least)
I didn't realize mine had the 2.3 either, it was like a Bonus prize. I think the dealer website didn't say it, but my salesman, being nice, was telling me about it after I explained I'd been eyeing Foci for the past few weeks. And when he got to "and 2.3L Duratec" I suddenly looked up like "say what? Let me see that!" And that's when I saw the wiry beast that is a Duratec. At the time, RI wasn't stocking them, so I hadn't discovered one until I crossed the MA border. What luck that was!
Never saw mine but in crappy pictures. I wouldn't have purchase it too had I known it wasn't in "perfect" condition as described. I was pretty pissed when I thoroughly looked over the car. However, the owner was in Mississippi, and I was in Oklahoma. It was on eBay, and I wound up talking to him after the reserve was not met. He had a lady in the state wanting to purchase the car, but he wanted to sell to me. I realize now, he wanted me to purchase the car because I couldn't look over the vehicle and back out of the transaction like the lady in the state could have.
Anyway, I flew there, drove it, and there wasn't too much I could do except drop $400 on a flight home. The car was listed as in "perfect" condition, but this was what was wrong with it. Three out of four of the wheels all had curb rashes, the windshield has several scratches and three filled holes, three different sets of tires with two worn past tread bars (we're talking no shoulder blocks) and the third needing replacement as well, broken fog light, large chunks of paint missing on the front bumper, no sunroof shade, e-brake handle wasn't glued (just slid off if you tried to use it), bumper corner lights didn't work, license plate lights didn't work, appears to be a cigarette burn on one of my Recaros, rear cargo net missing, poorly painted chips on the hood, rear bumper has a dent front either rear impact (minor - just a slight crack in the paint due to slight bending), stock antenna shrouding torn, SVT center cap cracked on one wheel, three out of four of the interior overhead handles were broken from their socket mounts but just in place, chin spoiler not (re)mounted correctly, and he was either a smoker or someone that rode with him smoked a lot. He refunded me $200 after the transaction, which he could've told me no, but I still think I should've requested more. That is why I will never buy a car again without looking it over.
I'm not disappointed or anything, but I haven't enjoyed playing catch up with my money on a car I expected to be in pristine condition when received. I still need to repaint/replace the front bumper and also replace the front windshield. At least the engine runs great... for now. I just hope my car appreciates what I'm doing for it because I appreciate the level of driving satisfaction it has given me.

I never saw mine; signed all the papers and three days later it was here, with 600 miles on it.

I didn't see mine till the day I went to pick it up. I had been to the dealer a week or so previously and tried to get an 02 Mustang. Didn't have the down payment yet, but I was waiting to sell a broke car and get my refund. I got the money called the dealer and the Mustang sold the day earlier. I knew i was already approved through the dealer for a certain amount, Ford threw up the free Dell deal, and my job offered teh X-plan, so I found the model and color I wanted on the lot. Called the guy I dealt with earlier with the Mustang, told him what i was looking for made an appointment to to pick it up. When I showed up the car was on an offsite lot. He drove me over there and I was able to drive it back. That was the first time I had ever driven a Focus, and it was last year during the San Diego rain storms that I drove it. In fact I got home from work tonight and had a one year anniversary letter from the dealer that sold the car to me. Funny that one year later I am once again looking at a new car.
02-25-2006, 06:39 AM
When i got mine i was looking at a 2003 black zx3 the day before and when i went to go the next day to show my parents we went into the showroom and found a 05 with no miles for a thousand more and bought it on the spot
02-25-2006, 06:49 AM
i went to a local dealership here in pittsville md and told them i was looking for a sangria red zx3 premium package and they did dealer exchange and got one from baltimore...so i never seen the car before i bought it
i came home from a steelers game after new years last year and i got picked up from the airport in my car. i hated it untill about christmas 05.
