Ok, I struggled cutting out my header heat shield and that was part of my rattle, but I still have a noise in the front when I take off. I'm thinking that I have a worn motor mount, but I don't know how to tell or determine which one is worn. I've raised the hood and had my wife watch as I take off and the noise does occur when the motor rocks back.

I've read on other posts that the stock motor mounts may not be up to the task of the SVT. Is this true? Should I replace with stock or go with aftermarket?

The stock motor mounts aren't up to the task of supporting a ham, let alone a 350lb engine.

There are three mounts to check.

1. By the passenger side wheel well, accessed from above the engine. To check this mount, put your hand on the under side of the mount, and you will feel where the bolt hang on to the bracket. This part can seperate, letting the engine hang down almost 2"

2. Driver side wheel well, accessed from above. This one will look pretty messed up, but it's really probably not. Make sure the rubber is not sagging.

3. Under the car, transmission to cross-member. Check to ensure that the rubber is not crushed or falling apart and that the mount does not have any play when you try to move it with a pry bar.

I just replaced all of mine. I had a rattle at idle and it was fixed with the upper passenger side mount.
