I went to the Ford dealership today to buy my thermostat housing and saw this kid I know. He has a ZX2 Escort....I noticed the dealership has a 2004 Silver SVT Focus and asked him if he saw it. He told me that he did and that he drove it.

This is the funny part....

Then he told me that his ZX2 is much faster than it...I laughed at him.....I asked him if he was talking about the same car as I was....He pointed right at the SVT....I just shook my head and walked away.

HAHA thats funny. Same thing happened with my car. the night i brought it home i was showing it off to some friends parked at a lot where lots of cars gather. One guy came and looked at it and told me that he had test driven it a week before. he said he didnt take it because it wasnt fast enough for him. i noticed he was driving a Neon (( lmao)) I told him, " the svt focus wasnt fast enough for you, so you bought a neon ?? " he says it will be much faster once he gets the " turbo stuff" in that he ordered from the internet. roflmao, wut a tool

Yeah that's a bit odd..... I know the ZX2 did have a special edition, not sure which kind but it had an intake and a bunch of other stuff done to it and it was quick but even still, the SVTF is alot faster.....

Weighing in at just under 2,500 pounds, the ZX2 accelerates from 0-60 mph in slightly less than 8 seconds.
...i remember somebody tested one and got a mid seven second 60 run....the cars were no slouch...and this is stock.

those ZX2s were actually QUITE zippy..... there was a special edition made with them too.....

im sure the zx2's are zippy, but still no match for the SVTF

The S/R edition one's are quite quick from what I have read.

The S/R Edition ZX2's haul anus. I was chocked when I first drove one.

I had a guy in a zx2 try to run me from a standstill...he had one person, I had two. He got a better start, but the tall 1st gear prevailed in the end and it was, "bye bye". I looked up that car cause I was actually impressed with how it moved, with some mods it would be fun......and I found out it is a 2.0 zetec engine...didnt know that.

I agree. When I went to the dealership to buy my car, I was planning on buying a used 2003 Neon. Then I saw the Focus. The focus was $1000 more than the Neon, and the Focus had 10k more miles on it, and was a year older. I was like, "what the hell, I'll go ahead and drive it." Needless to say, a test drive was alllll it took... [:D]

I have been an Escort fan for years. I have 1 GTR built Escort and a ZX2 SR and I also have a ZX3 not counting all my other cars, and my ZX2 can beat any stock SVT out here. I would still ti have an SVTF but I feel the Escort has more potential. It's still stock but not for long.

When I almost bought one about five years ago, I was impressed with the ZX's powerband and the shifting. It was a major upgrade from driving around a '93 LX Escort.

zx2s are fun little cars, but my ST is quicker i think.

ZX2 versus SVTF............I would take the ZX2 every time

interesting nonetheless....

on a side note, neon's aren't toooo bad, the SRT4 anyway, my g/f has an 05 sx2.0 w/ an ATX, my focus would stomp it, but the neon isn't too bad of a ride on the highway...

I guess he's still upset about that. I think it's safe to say that for most of us, we can see a world of difference between a strippo Neon with a weaksauce engine (not the SRT-4, since that wasn't the car he said he hated), and a Subaru WRX STi.

I will note also that it is interesting to see that the same old people who always take the opportunity to get a little jab in at the SVT are doing it here, once again, like we didn't hear them the first 100 times they told us the SVT sucked. [rolleyes]

I've driven ZX2s and while they were more fun than a regular ol' Escort with the SPI, I wouldn't trade my SVT for one. Also, teddyrob, I am surprised no one responded to the times you posted for the SVT, since those are not particularly impressive times, especially this one - 2002 Ford Focus SVT 7.8 16.1 - which is one of the worst times I have ever seen posted for an SVT Focus.

Whatever happened to those one or two members who owned the ZX2 S/R and never posted anything except when the topic of the ZX2 came up, and then got real defensive and argumentative about it? I'm surprised they didn't post here.

BLEH where do you find those. Those times are HORRIBLE. I've heard of stock SVT's going low to mid 15's. Not nearly 16.[?|]

The Zx2 is lighter. It will take a good power increase to over come the added weight. What did you guy's exspect?

The escort S/R's have MTX-65 tranny instead of a MTX-75.

So whats the difference between the 65 and the 75?
