has anybody herd anything about the gains from the intercooler sprayer systems. i would like to know if spending 400+ on one of those setups is worth the gains...just wondering.

if your running big boost (mainly in the summer) I could see it helping. I would invest my money else where.

Ravage is pretty much correct. We did an intercooler spary on my nephews Cobra and it did make a difference of about 20 HP after it had been sprayed a couple times and really got the cooler cooled off. It was an '01 with a Procharger and a NX intercooler system using Co2 instead of nitrous (you can use either). It really has to be sprayed a couple times to be effective. Not really worth the cost though IMHO. One thing though, it looks cool.

yeah it does look nice. well 20 HP is pretty significant. i wonder if you could make a setup. it doesnt look to complext. hmmm

20hp on a cobra motor. You might see half that much on a focus.

That was 20hp on a Cobra keep in mind, your results will vary

there is an easier, cheaper, more effective way to cool an intercooler. just rig up a set of the windshield sprayers, or some other nozzle to spray water on the intercooler. water is cheap, and the heat of vaporization is a much more effective way to cool than n20 or co2. seriously, try it. even the new subaru has a water spray for the intercooler, it works very well. i will look in my chem book for the actual scientific values, but think of it this way- if you walk outside and its 70 degrees, its very comfortable. but jump in 70 degree water, and its pretty cold, and you can get hypothermia.

hypothermia in 70deg water? I swim in 50-60deg water in Mass/NH/Maine and never get hypothermia

maybe i am just resistant? lol :-P

Nitrous belongs in an engine not sprayed on the intercooler........

Thats very true about that being on the Cobra, the Focus would be less.

The intercooler does work , but like i said we used co2, same effect, alot cheaper

Or you could just use some zip ties and a block of dry ice. Does vortec make an intercooler/aftercooler for the focus setup? I have seen a few people that use that on their mustangs and just dump a bunch of ice in the reservoir right before they race. Unless I was driving some kind of race car, or a car with a considerably larger engine, I just couldn't see spending the money on it.

haha i dont think i could zip tie a blick of ice to a front mount intercooler.. ill have to try the water sprayer. i was thinking about hooking up a windshield washer pump to some nozzles. but Co2 is deff colder. yeah your right about the hp being different on a cobra. ill hav to play around with this idea.... i could velcro some of those battery powered fans to the bumper..if i had like 14 going at the same time that would help alot!...haha

Use N20, some of it will probably be ingested by the engine thus providing a GREAT intercooling effect. Which is often overlooked by many people, the fact that N20 has a great coolong effect, is ADDITION to density.

I'd imagine you would start spraying for about 1 minute to get the cooler nice and frosty and then jump on it.

That's what you need, a bunch of computer cooling fans strapped to the intercooler. That would be awesome. Maybe even some heat sinks with liquid cooling. And glow in the dark cooling liquid.

hahaha. yeah as far as some being injested into the intake. i dont know if that really would happen because of all the things in front of the air cleaner. anyway i think i am going to go with the NO2 cooling setup when its time to lol. i like the NOS setup better than the NX setup. it seems to cover more area rather than the hoop.

You could always mix and match some of the suggestions here and I'll alter a couple myself.

Water sprayer on intercooler good and maybe change to alcahol/water or meth/water

use the nos in the intake and get all of the cooling effect nos is expensive you might as well burn it instead of spraying into the wind

Icing down the intercooler would also be a pluss but I think I'd save that for racetime at the strip....and dry it off before you stage

Will this work well with a turbo ?

I think the best thing to do(I'm no expert though) would be to take some paintball CO2 tanks, mount then somewhere, then run the line to the intercooler, have an electric valve to control how much is sprayed. CO2 tanks are cheap. I don't think just fans or anything along those lines would help that much, they can only take it down to the same tempurature as the air they're sucking in.

the fans were a joke haha. well i would have to figure out a switch to open the line and everything. il have to see how much those types of setups will cost me. yeah they have a cos setup aswell as the No2.
oh and welcome to FF!

Why not just use some leaf blowers? It'll sound like a jet engine was under the hood! [thumb]

i was thinking about just doing the windsheild washer squirter idea, and just squirting some rubbing alcohal on the intercooler, in theory it would work...if you put some on your finger it gets cold...[???:)] right

Off the top of my head, I seem to recall that the prototype/show truck for the '05 lightning used the A/C to cool a resevoir of air, and on demand, dump the cool air through the intercooler, supposedly adding an instant 40 or so H.P. Once used, it would recharge the resevoir in about 10 minutes. Dream big.

that would still look cool...wow the ac cooling idea is a good one. maybe a little more out there than i was thinking about going lol. toolman- leafblowers! thats even better. but i would need at least 6.
anyway i think ill try the co2 cooling idea. its cheaper than the No2 setup...i would feel bad spraying No2 , NOT in the engine
