: hey tom about ur stage 1/full kit....reliability/quarter miles
dbluefocus21 12-02-2005, 12:27 PM I'm still wondering what my options are, but how reliable is dailydriving your stage 1 kit and how hard is it on the stock internals? same goes if I were to upgrade to the all out full kit?
are internal upgrades required in order to stay reliable w/numbers in the 250's and higher?
also has anybody (including you) ever ran a car w/your stage 1 alone w/ no other serious upgrades ran in the quarter?....slicks/d.r's...dot's maybe......same question for you full out kit w/250 or higher : )
thanks [:)]
Bluefocusx 12-02-2005, 01:18 PM 250'S and higher prolly yes. Can you run over 250 and not blow the motor yes. Will it blow the motor yes.
Sooo, you could get lucky as one of my friends and have the car years boosted and never blow anything.
Or you could blow the motor on one psi, tho thats not likely.
If you wanna make it "Dependable" id upgrade the internals soon after getting the turbo on, then you can even run more boost ;-P
dbluefocus21 12-02-2005, 01:27 PM see....i'm more scared of boost then I am spraying the car because I don't spray often at all......I'm sprayin a 65 shot and don't think anything of it.....but if running 7-10 lbs of boost, i'm sure that'll surpass that margin of hp/tq and it'll be everyday...even though there are boosted Foci, I don't know how long these guys have went w/boost w/such and such problems.....but anyways....if it's reliable for a good amount of time then cool : )
if not, i'll just wait it out and upgrade internally too....
1turbofocus 12-03-2005, 02:21 PM Just because you have your boost set to 12 -15 PSI does NOT mean that every time you drive the car you will see 12- 15 PSI , Driving normal you might not see over 4 to 6 psi
250 and under i have many many Foci doing this for years and 10`s of thousands of miles with no engine or trans issues
Tom
mike 1 12-06-2005, 01:11 PM i have toms stg1 turbo kit and i drive mine every day to work and i put the turbo kit on in august had no issues so far

Templar 12-06-2005, 02:30 PM good info. food for thought...
dbluefocus21 12-06-2005, 02:47 PM yeah it's definitely worth thinking about : )
anybody in here get a stage 1 and piece it together to make it a full out turbo kit? or do they just buy the whole extra kit at once?
1turbofocus 12-06-2005, 03:43 PM They do both some buy the full some start with the STG1 and work up
Tom
mike 1 12-06-2005, 08:11 PM yes that is what i plan on doing i want to revisit tom in the spring to upgrade to the full kit
Darth Focus 12-06-2005, 09:06 PM I cant wait to see Mike's car finished...then, Rick will stop buggin him and let him into the "turbo/ intercooler" club. He let in an Isuzu box truck...lol. (It's a joke club by the way).
Mikes kit is awesome. Just the build quality, and the fit and finish and the POWER is exactly why Tom is so famous in the Focus world. His work is TOP-NOTCH! I myself am not "cabbo status" like Mike, so I dont have a Turbo SVT....I can out-handle him though! :-P
...and get a clutch so you can run from me!!
dbluefocus21 12-07-2005, 10:55 AM cool cool : P
p0sitivevibez 12-08-2005, 03:51 PM My dad says you have to get it balanced for reliability, I guess to work out all the "kinks" in the engine that the turbo makes much worse?
svt2nv04 12-11-2005, 02:43 PM what do you mean by balanced?.... tuned?
PapoSwing 12-11-2005, 05:01 PM Yeah I think he means 'tuned', Tom is excellent in this department as well.
svt2nv04 12-11-2005, 06:08 PM oh well yeah that's a must i would think! with a mod like that!
