: Powerworks Supercharger install

Hey fellow Arizonians,

Anyone have experience installing one of the new PW S/C's on an SVT?

I have checked the directions on the website, but I am a sub-novice wrench (read: still working my way up to changing my own oil), but am a fast learner with a positive attitude about learning new skills.

If this is your thing, I am debating about this option, and have gotten some reasonable but still VERY high install quotes. I am inclined to DIY as a result.

Let me know if you'd like to share your skills, know of resources, or can recommend an install shop as a last resort in the Scottsdale, Tempe, or surrounding areas.

Thanks in advance for your responses,

Lil_Silver_Rocket

It sounds like you've described yourself fairly as a 'sub novice'. Don't even consider attempting this install on your own. I'd even be very reluctant to do this install with a newly found friend for a helper. If something happens and they can't help you complete the project, you are screwed.

Pay a mechanic to do the work. A self install gone bad is going to cost you even more.

I agree with DePue on this one. It's not like its putting on a catback or even springs for that matter, but forced induction can blow your engine if not installed right. So take it to a shop. Congrats on FI by the way!

Any new news on the install? I really hope that it's not still sitting in your garage! If so...what's your address? haha...jk. Can't wait to see some pics or something. I really want the kit, and any additional temptation might just push me over the edge.

No news...yet.

Will keep y'all posted!

Hey all,

If anyone is a whiz at problem solving with this kit, particularly leaks in the oil filter relocation plate connecting to the engine block, I may have an issue that requires more insight. I have a solution from PW to try, but am wanting to line up more assistance as a precaution in case my installer and I can't resolve it

Hopefully, it will be up and running in the next two days, but...[?|]

If you're a master (or close) at these installs, drop me a PM.

Located in Cave Creek, AZ.

Thanks in advance,

First thing... Is it a big leak or small leak?

If it's big..
I'd be darn certain the leak isn't from one of the AN fittings on the adapter. Overtightening can potentially also mess up those fittings (Dedicated AN wrenches are typically only 4" long, so you don't overtighten).

If it's a small leak..
Check the two plugs in the adapter, I'd recommend a good RTV sealant instead of the teflon tape.

If it's none of that, and is definetely the adapters quad seal to the block... You can try spinning it another 180°. Maybe even a slight additonal turn from its current posistion will cause it to seal (the seal PW includes is a high grade quad seal and really shouldn't be prone to leaking).

Good luck with it.

You won't have the AN fittings - yours is a SVT kit and DePue's is a 5-spd kit. There are changes in the oil relocation between those kits.

Overtightening the fittings (AN, plugs, or hose fittings) can crack the adapter and relocation blocks. We've found that 3+ wraps of TFE tape (wrapped on in the proper direction - so it doesn't come off as the fitting is installed) just about always works better than RTV as well.

Hey all,

I am in need of someone to help me fix a problem with the gasket in the oil relocation plate ASAP.

If you have experience tuning the SVT, preferrably with some S/C or turbocharging history, and would like to see a big grin on a new Powerworks SVT owner's face, drop me a response/PM.

Possible $$ offered for assistance, or at least a decent slice o' pizza or two!

Thanks in advance for your time,

Chuck

to tune you need a dyno, none of us have one, and also the PW kit should be golden, shouldn't need much tuning, unless you have mods other than that kit on your car that would eaffect their tunes. I would suggest getting over to azdynochip and getting some base numbers down and see what your A/F looks like as soon as you get that oil leak fixed.

I can see I've misspoken, and so to elaborate:

I don't need actual "tuning" per se. I have the PW tune in at this time, and am sure it will work just fine.

I meant to say, "working with DIY applications."

I don't have much (read any) experience with DIY car work, and am highly hesitant to get into the guts of my SVT without someone with at least a little know-how by my side.

I am hoping that someone with some installation experience can come give me a hand.

Thanks again,

Chuck

Hey all,

We solved the problem (thanks to Nate at Fletchers in Cave Creek...you're a gasket god!).

The oil filter relocation plate had been double gasketed. 2 hours to get to the plate removing, losening, and moving parts for a 2 minute fix [?|] Ah well, live and learn, yes?

Got the oil changed today, as it was intensely overfilled with synthetic, and leaving large stinking clouds of smoke much to the chagrin of other drivers. Found oil in exhaust, no leaks underneath, thank goodness!

Currently have a CEL from the oil in exhaust, but a week of regular driving should clear out the extra oil, then will get code cleared.

Other than a few rattles at WOT around 4K RPM, all else seems well.

It will take some time to get used to the launching sequence!

More to come, and for all who sent good thoughts my way during the installation/fixing period, thank you![^]

Hey all,

After continued issues (oil leak on relocated oil filter side, unhooked connectors, detonation, etc.), the project is 99.9% completed.

I wanted to publicly say thanks and let the rest of the FF community know about the major players that helped make it possible:

1)Ryan Rayburn of Tuner's Corner: Ryan put in much overtime with installation, teaching me the ropes, and solving issues. If you need a local parts dealer with integrity, he's your man! www.tunerscorner.com

2) Nate Davis: Nate works at a local shop, and helped track down many problems and put in much time after hours getting my car running right. If interested in his installation or repair services, please drop me a PM and I'll help you get in touch.

3) Matt Dunlavey of Powerworks: Matt fielded numerous phone calls, many after regular business hours, and provided all the step-by-step information I needed to get my car running properly. He truly went above and beyond the call! www.powerworks.net

4) My wife, Lara: Lara's infinite patience as I spent many an hour under the car, carpooling when it wasn't running right, and spinning the wrenches when I couldn't get my hands into a few spaces were just some of the assistance she offered. I couldn't have done it without her!

I think that covers all the major players.

Thanks again to all for the good thoughts and support the SW FF has offered!

Now, when's the next G2G or ride?

See you on the road,
