: Cut off exaust.

Ok I'm thinking this will be perfect with my up and coming turbo setup, but what I'm thinking about is a automatic cut off exaust. Were there's one a Y shaped pipe coming off of my header connecting to my exaust and the other tip just hangs out to the side. So when I feel like I wonna open her up I press the button inside the car and a motor in the pipe blocks the exaust portion so the exaust fumes go out the other pipe so it would be like me having headers and no exaust piping.

My friend has it on his pontiac firebird with a V8 Cammero engine swap and when he switches the pipes over it halls ass.

Plus it doesn't cost that much to do.

So does this sound good or what?

sound good, no. My exhaust ends with the downpipe. It sounds like a tractor.

HOWEVER

if your not turboed its not a good idea at all. It will sound like crap and your gonna loose much needed back pressure

Correct BUT since it will automatically open up with a click of a button I will fly on the freeway like a loud obnoxious sounding bee.

ATP turbo sells a boost controlled exhaust, acting similar to a wastegate. Opens under whatever boost pressure you set it for. atpturbo.com

personally, Id get a 3 inch all the way back and get some good mufflers to quiet it down....

I don't want it too but DUDE it's a 4 banger so if you have no exaust after the headers it's gonna sound like a BEE. lol

You think it's gonna sound like a V8? NOOOOOOOOO

But I think it's a fun cheap mod. Even if you are not going turbo and you open it up on the freeway to gain more power to pass stupid cars up, it would be worth it.

ricer, that sounds like a awesome waste of money and degrading your focus. Your gonna LOOSE back pressure, making your car SLOWER. Im sure your local police will appriciate it as well. Even if you have a switch to go back and forth your gonna find out after paying to get it done, that your car was faster to begin with. Whatever, its your car.

Ummm ok you are missing the point here. If you open it up on the FREEWAY it doesn't matter. Off the line with it closed does matter. You get it now.

it was always my understanding that turbo cars do better with little to no back pressure... which is why many for example srt4s just run a 3 inch side exit.

Ok so with a turbo good idea without turbo off the line it's bad but when it's opened up on the freeway it's good.

I get what he's trying to say. With a turbo, He wants to have an exhaust with an optional outlet. With a turbo, it is better to have a more free-flowing exhaust. With the outlet that he wants to put in, it would completely delete having to go through the entire exhaust assembly and flowing it much better than before. This would only work with a turbo, not n/a. IMHO, I think it could work, but it's all about how the person who wants to do this thinks of it. I wouldn't personally do it myself, I'd rather get a custom exhaust.

EXACTLY!!!!

I have a 2.25 magnaflow exaust but I wonna go 3.0 for the turbo but I thought this might be a good alternative.
