Lately my car has started to make some interesting noises. All in all, its running just fine...its approaching 75k service, so i think that tune up will make a difference even more so.

anyway, whenever i shift, usually 2nd-4th gears ( from what ive noticed) theres this "wsshhh" sound that comes right after i finish shifting, and press the throttle in. It happens the same time i press the gas....and sometimes when i hold the clutch in and lightly rev , you can hear it each time you blip the gas pedal. Sounds like its coming from inside the car, near the dash...kinda like an electrical thing when the automatic doors lock...similar sound to that. Its hard to explain..so bare with me, lol

Any ideas? Its kind of getting annoying at this point..but as long as its running fine, ill jsut wait till my service comes to really check it out

When you near 75k, the turbo blow off gets louder. [:D]

My geuss is you are either hearing you CAI...or it is the sound of your DSI Motor actuating or disactuating. And if it is being that loud then it may be nearing the end of its lifespan.

Then again...im far from being an expert!

My guess was going to be DSI/IMRC as well, mine made a strange-sounding noise that sounded like it was coming from under the dash - eventually when the assembly failed, it made that same noise only MUCH louder and constantly instead of just when stepping on the gas. When/if it breaks you'll know it, it makes a sort of "whir-click, whir-click, whir-click" noise that happens as long as the car is running.

This is your basic broken DSI/IMRC cable/clip:

i think both of you are correct....its making a noise similar to a whir-click type sound, lol.

any idea how much that is to repair?\

Thanx for your input, guys. much appreciated

Mine was under warranty, I don't know... but apparently people have gotten industrious enough and clever enough to figure out ways to fix it without taking it to the dealer. What usually breaks is the clip/lever thingamabob at the end of the cable. Try searching a little bit if you haven't already, there's lots of discussion on this topic.

I believe it is stickied in the main forum. From what you have said...it doesnt sound like it is snapped off. It that were the case it would be non stop even at idle from the second you turn your car on. I know from experience that the DSI motor/module whatever you call it...ran me about 150 bucks at a dealership...and it was special order. IIRC there is someone on here who sells the same thing for aobut 80.

Bottom line...if your under warranty...take advantage of it...if not Id say start by making sure the clip isnt busted...and then replaceing the module.

I don't think it's broken either, but I think it sounds like he's around the corner from experiencing a broken one... when I could hear that weird little sound while stepping on the gas, it was only a matter of weeks/months afterwards that the thing broke.

amazing! thanx everybody.

The sound has gotten progressively worse. But i dont think the clip is broken either. I definitely dont want to wait very long to get it taken care of. Hopefully i can figure it out myself before i bring it to the dealership. Id like to buy the parts on my own

I think im gonna pick up that DSI clip too,

thanx again

I believe if you running a 02 SVTf... you might have to replace the whole intake manifold. Bad design on SVT's part. They changed it for 03-present. Start counting pennies.

can you get a 03 intake mani and change it out?

im not sure if its at that point yet....the car still runs fine, and i havent noticed anything "wrong" with the way the intake manifold engages or disengages or whatever. Its just that weird metallic wshhh sound when i press the gas......and its not from the CAI, lol.

If the clip does eventually break...all you have to do is the ghetto riggin job. Basicly you take a dremel, drill a hole in the disc, then you take a machine screw and file it down to where it is the same shape as the clip...screw that biotch in there with some loctite or similar substance and its way more rock solid than that plastic piece will ever be. But to me it sounds more like the DSI motor mechinsm itself is at the end of its life...which is not all that bad to replace allthough it costs about 140 from ford.

i jsut scoped it out a little more today...there was a cable that wasnt attached to the intake manifold.. looks like a throttle cable, with a little cam thing on the end that attaches to the intake manifold, below the throttle body. i reconnected it, im pretty sure thats the source of the sound, as it made it when i spun the cam and re attached it. Didnt look like it broke, just sliped off..it seems fairly solid now.

Dam I started hearing that same sound today... Only happens in fourth gear as I am letting go of the clutch and pressing the gas. And I am hearing a shaking metal sound.
let us know how things turn out.

I always hear the lifters clicking when at idel outside the car. Also, whenever I go over bumps and angle car in drive ways, I hear a clunk as the car shakes. It's weird.

you may think you are hearing lifters, but could it be the tranny rollover? next time you hear that sound... get in and give the clutch a press.. see if it goes away... and as far as these whooshing sounds or metal shaking... i am going to venture to say the flexpipe is shaking and you are hearing noise from the exhaust.... i know mine does this in the higher revs and such. take a look and see

EDIT
there is a TSB for the bracket that supports the exhaust at the point where the cat and flexpipe and all that are... if you replace this... the sound of the whooshing... tends to be fixed... from personal expireience
