: Is it good to change the flywheel?
majikmike 10-21-2005, 09:33 AM I asked a mechnic at ford one day about upgrading my flywheel and they said I shouldn't because it would cause alot of vibration. Is this true, and are the centerforce clutches good on are cars also? I've seen the one for the SVTF and have been thinking about getting one. Thanks ya'll!!
InfraRedSVT02 10-21-2005, 12:07 PM there is a stickies thread about clutch/flywheel combinations, you might wanna check that out.
Portuga 10-21-2005, 12:27 PM Got my car back from the shop yesterday.
Got clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, throwout bearing done.
I like it, even with the chatter it came with.
It doesn't vibrate but you can defenatly hear the flywheel chatting...
majikmike 10-21-2005, 12:40 PM What is a stickies thread? So is the chatter that loud? I don't plan on upgrading much just a JRSC w/BBK and throttle body, and maybe a MAF. The stock drive train should handle that huh.
Portuga 10-21-2005, 12:46 PM It's defenatly noticeble, but anyone who says, whats that noise? probably shouldn't be riding shotgun anyway [:)]
In the car, all you have to do it turn on your radio, just a little bit and you won't be able to hear it anymore.
On the outside by the passenger side you can barely hear it, it's worse when you are standing by the drivers wheel.
It's all good though, i'm actually going for a joy ride\break in ride now.
Later.
SVT_BMXer 10-21-2005, 12:48 PM wont handle it for to long, might as well do clutch and flywheel. Just had mine in the shop about 2 months ago for JRSC, spec stg 2 clutch and fidanza flywheel. Just the clutch and flywheel alone are a great mod and coupled with the blower really helps. The stock drivetrain will handle it, just will wear out alot faster.

majikmike 10-21-2005, 05:07 PM well from what i've been reading so far not alot of the people liked the fact that changing the flywheel/clutch makes so much noise. what if i just changed the clutch, would that hold up longer then changing both?
Toolman00 10-21-2005, 05:27 PM Clutch would hold the power better, but you'd still rev the same (lighter flywheel would rev like mad).
You know the flywheel sucks, why not change it and deal with a little chatter - there is a chance that it WON'T chatter if it is installed perfectly, but it won't affect anything if it does.

The noise isn't "flywheel chatter" It is the noise that the Aluminum magnifies that the Steel covered up. I have never seen a post with a person that didn't have additional noise with the Aluminum Flywheel. I am pretty confident in my installer's abilities and it is pretty a straight forward installation from what he said. Really hard not to install correctly.
