: Oil? Motorcraft or other?

I'm in dire need of new oil right now. For some reason my oil has dropped drammatically to the point that today while drving the engine light blinked once and I had no throttle. Got home and the meter was on red!!!

Right now I'm going to the Autozone and getting some oil. So, should I go with the stock Motorcraft (SAE 5W-20 right?) or go with something better? Also what's gonna be the price difference between the two.

our SVT engines take 5w-30, not 5w-20. brand doesn't really matter. the motorcraft is good, it's what ford uses, I like to use mobil 1, some people like redline, and some like royal purple. it's all a question of how much you want to spend on oil. the higher dollar ones do reduce friction better than the others, but it more a question of preference

I'm going synthetic and switching to Mobile 1 on my next oil change.

Just get a brand name 5w30 and you should be fine.
Just stay away from Black Flag or store brand oil.

Going synthetic is good too but does cost a bit more.

For oil filter, get Motorcraft FL-2005 or a Puralator equivalent.
The filter should look long, not small and stout.

does anything but motorcraft void your warantee. someone at ford told me it would.

your oil pressure dropped? that mite be a bigger problem, what caused that dramatic of a drop?

No. As long as the oil and filter are API/SAE certified, they can't deny you your warranty.

Your issue doesnt sound like just the oil...i seen a svtf come into my work that had lost oil pressure...motor was DONE....i'd get it checked out...and take any performanec mods off be4 u go to the dealer...trust me....ford is cracking down on that sh-t

preferably tow it to the dealer

if your oil pressure gauge is on the red...DONT DRIVE IT.......check it for leaks

Yeah, if your oil pressure dropped so low that it caused you to notice, something is wrong! So maybe you sprang a leak... definitely get it checked out as others have suggested. Your car is too new to mysteriously be "eating" oil.

Guys, I turned it back on and everything was fine. Oil pressure fine, no warning lights, nothing. But still what could've caused the battery light, engine oil, and check engine light to come on all at the same time and losing throttle for a few seconds [???:)] I've been having problems the last month and a half with rough morning starts. They had improved since I did the flash, but now the same symptoms are back!!![?|] And also I get the worst gas mileage in the world even if I've been babying the car for the last few months [?|]

What do these symptoms sound like to you? I'm not having deto problems am I?

I think I've experienced this before, but I don't know what to do about it other than to pay attention to the RPM's and keep them at a steady 1k when you idle at a stop.

sounds more like an electrical problem.

I know a few people have had a bunch of lights randomly come on on their dashboard and it turned out to be a failing alternator...might want to get that checked...I know one person has his alternator catch on fire...

Best guess....alternator is about ready to bite the big one.[:(]

But, yes, if you're still under warranty, let Ford fix it.[;)]

Why would the car freak out if the alternator is going out? It charges the battery not runs the car. I may be wrong but it dosn't make sense to me. Don't get me wrong I don't know crap about mechanic stuff like I said above it just doesn't make sense.

The battery is mainly there to start the car.
Once it fires up, the alternator takes over the electrical duties.

PapoSwing.
Do you have a volt meter?
Hook it up to the battery, start the car and let it run a couple minutes.
Then check:
It should be pulling 13-13.5 volts when the car is running.
It might be a little less at idle, but to be safe check at 1,500-2,000 rpms.

try a grounding kit it might of been the poor grounds in the car some times all those lights will go on my did intill i put a grounding kit in it. the grounding kit gives you better grounds because the factory didnt think to good about the grounds ne way trust me your car will run smoother and stop those lights from flashing on and off its def a electrical prob.

If you are having rough idle, hard starts on cold, randomly shutting off, battery light coming on, etcc.........these are all signs of the PCM needing to be reprogrammed or "reflashed". Mine did the same thing and so many others on the forum here. I'm surprised noone has mentioned that yet. Either way, take it to dealer and let them fix it....made my new car run like new....had 1000 miles on it when it started acting up.

I've been using Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic for the last 2 oil changes. It's more expensive..but I think it'll help in the long run.
