My IMRC clip broke a few months ago (had the nasty repetitive actuator noise, dealership replaced the manifold under warranty). After having the repair performed, the car kept throwing the MIL indicator, and I didn't have a chance to get it checked out (been really busy with work, etc.)
Last week, I got a Predator from Tom, and after flashing the car, decided to pull the codes. Contained therein was a P1518 IMRC stuck open code.
Upon removing the airbox, the clip is still intact, and the assembly rotates freely (though, with typical spring resistance, well within spec as per the FSMs).
Upon starting the car, I hear the IMRC actuator cycle about four or five times, then stop, and the car is a dog below about 4k RPM.
Any ideas on why I'd be getting the P1518 even with the cable and clip intact?
Thanks in advance,

I don't know anyhting about codes but your IMRC is not operating.
You should be able to put the e-brake on, open the hood and rev the car past 5000. The IMRC should open sometime after that assuming your tune is telling it to.
You may actually need a new IMRC motor, It should leave the intake open when the car is off and pull it shut when you start the car, It sounds like yours is not pulling the intake shut.
You may even have a broken cable which is part of the motor, so the motor may still cycle without moving the intake.
Yeah, the motor is cycling, but the cable isn't moving, so it looks like I need a new motor. I pulled the battery to verify that the cable wasn't being pinched anywhere, checked the routing, and everything looks fine.
I'll have the dealership swap out the IMRC motor when I bring it in for the clutch TSB.

I know you guys are tired of newbies like me and would wish I would just read all posts and figure it out myself. I was just going to have the Ford dealership fix this, but they quoted me at more than $800. From the posts I have browsed this seems crazy, considering a dsi motor costs $80. Any help or insight on the difficulty of this problem would be greatly appreciated. Maybe even a PayPal bonus. Better than going to the dealership, at least the one located in Brighton, MI.

Remove the IMRC from in front of the driver's side wheel. It's easiest to pull out by removing the headlight and IIRC there are two bolts holding it in. After removing it, open it up and see what's going on inside. If the plastic gears are stripped then contact Mike from Hilbish Ford about ordering a new one. Otherwise you can check out http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164269
In that thread one member was having an issue with a contact point not making a decent connection and his problem seemed to be easily fixed. There's nothing at all difficult about replacing or removing the IMRC. I believe removing the old cable from the retainer near the DSI clip took me the longest

yup i just replace my IMRC cost me $171 from ford oh well. my motor broke when the plastic level broke. guessing when the level broke the cable was pulled all the wat back causin g it to lose tension. beside when i removed the old motor that cable was so worn out. now its working better them before. idle is alot better too
