: Man it's tempting to sell
09-27-2005, 08:22 PM
Checked out the local dealer tonight. They have a silver 2002 SVT ZX3 with moonroof, 70k+ miles, and new tires (forget what kind, looked decent) on the lot for 16k! Yes, for a USED SVTF! Mileage would be my main concern, and the fact that SVT dealers practically gave these things away! I was hoping for a salesman to come out, but none did. [mad] It was in decent shape for the 30 secs that I checked it out, but the mileage is up there for a 2002.
I'd love to have asked them how much they'd give me for my SVT considering mine is a blue 2004 ZX5 with HID's and 15,500 miles, and better warranty. I only paid $16,500 for mine (was marked up to $20,500)... It'd be pretty tempting if they'd offer $16k trade in.
Can you say new black Mustang GT (400 horsepower of maximum performance piercing the night... this is Black Sunshine)?
09-27-2005, 08:28 PM
Thats insane. That car shouldn't be more than $11K, especially with those miles.
09-27-2005, 08:36 PM
Tell me about it! That's what makes it tempting to see what they'd give me for mine! I'm not too sure what I owe on mine, but it'd be nice driving a vehicle for practically free (other than maintenance and gas)!
With the discounts going on now, you can get a 05 ST for like 15k!

When i traded in my svtf, they didn't even consider giving me more for the HID's. They thought it was aftermarket, and I couldn't convince them otherwise. I had a hell of a time even getting 9k on trade in, let alone the 10.5K KBB says it's worth.
09-27-2005, 10:13 PM
Well, if you ever thought that a dealer would give you what they turn around and sell for, you are crazy. They always mark up at least a few k on trade-in vehicles (and in this case probably more like 6k). But, a new GT would be nice.
Hey there Dr.!
Going to be at the Bozeman AutoCross this Sunday???
I do believe I'll be making it down there...unless it's raining hard...or...snowing.[eek]

With gas pricies and what they will be by next summer i wouldn't even touch a Stang let alone buy one. But hey if you can do it. I say never get in the way of a good goal. I would rather spend that extra gas money from driving a stang and use it to pay off your svt early then start modding it out even better with easier cash flow.
09-27-2005, 10:29 PM
I am in no way saying that you current mods are not enough but only stating how much easier it would to say purchase and aftermarket item when there is no monthly car note floating behind your head. But, I don't even know if you have one so, just a random thought.
I will be considering higher tier future mods for my focus once it is paid off.

LoL I would sell my 02 with 23k miles in excellent condition for 16k
on second thought...no way!
09-27-2005, 10:57 PM
been thinkin about unloading mine
70k..hahaha, perfect condition otherwise...NEAR perfect anyway. Id be happy to be 10k. thats what its supposed to be book value.
been seeing this cherry 97 540i w/ a 6 speed at a dealership....17k...mmmmmm. i wanty
if gas prices keep up, then there will be no 4.4 liter v8 on any horizon soon [:D]

I feel sorry for the person that actually pays that much for it, thinking they got a good deal.
09-28-2005, 12:18 AM
you know whats weird, my svtf was used and the price was 16 grand as well but she had 15k on it, this was last july! well me working there i got it for 12k but thats beside point. i dont think the price should be that much.. for 70k that asking alot. i just think there trying to make some extra cash there..
09-28-2005, 10:38 AM
Too many miles bro, forget it.
09-28-2005, 11:12 AM
they gotta come down on the price ! i got mine with 25k miles on it for 12k.

If you're seriously interested in trading your car, shop it around.
I traded in a Ranger when I got my focus. The first dealership offered me $1,500.00 for it. The manager swore up and down that that was the highest they could go because that's what the wholesaler would pay them for it. I went to three different dealerships and played them off each other. I ended up getting $3,750.00... and that first dealership I went to? Not only were they were willing to match that price, but i had the satisfaction of telling the manager that she had lost my business because they tried to undercut me by almost two grand.
Also, make sure when you're negotiating that you negotiate the trade in SEPERATELY from the purchase price of the car.

i dont think i could get 10k...thats what the book value is i believe.
Regardless, im pretty sure i cant even afford to unload it. Just speculation

im currently lookin at a 2004 zx3 svt with 26k miles and some aftermarket upgrades for $13,250... $16,000 for a 2002 with 70k miles is outrageous!!! there is a 2004 zx5 SVT by my house with HID and the works, 13000 miles for $17,000...that price is nuts.

I'm not looking to sell my SVT for a few years. I think it would have been fun to either see what they'd offer for mine, or to tell them I paid $500 more for a BRAND NEW SVT. I know it's marked up a lot and I'd love to tell them nobody in their right mind would pay $16k for a SVT with over 70k (think it was 74k). I'd like to think people would look at the other Foci on the lot and tell them that the SVT is 4 years old, has more miles than it should for it's model year, and that a new Focus ST costs LESS!
Gas for a Mustang GT wouldn't be much more than what I pay for now (it takes regular) - maybe $5 more a week, which I can afford. It would be nice to get one, but I have other priorities right now. Maybe in a few years I will look at getting one.

When I was at the dealership today getting my hunk of crap uhuuummmm I mean my SVT diagnosed for it's tranny issue they only wanted to give me 7,000 at the most for trade in. Matter of fact that's what Kelley Blue Book says is the trade in value. NADA says the trade in is worth 9900. You do the math. NADA is supposed to be what most dealers go by. KBB is rarley used.
Which book does your dealer use to estimate your vehicle.
10-01-2005, 09:16 PM
That must be the SVTF at Dic Brantmeir. That thing has been sitting there for months now. I asked what they would give for mine, and they told me 9K. I laughed at the salesmen and asked why the other one was on the lot for 16K. He told me because it is a rare car. That one is a 3dr, no options at all. Mine is a 5dr, HID's, cold weather package, and Audiophile, with only 28K on it. I told them if they gave me 18K for mine, I wanted a new F150. He said no deal, and I left. Them guys are idiots.
10-02-2005, 07:18 PM
LOL Scott! It does have the moonroof, but that's all I saw. Man, 9k for your car... they'd probably put it on the lot for 17-18k and make it sound like it's a good deal!
10-08-2005, 01:04 AM
400 horsepower of maximum performance piercing the night
New mustang GTs only have 300 hp.
10-08-2005, 02:08 PM
I know... quoting a White Zombie song...
10-13-2005, 10:31 PM
I got mine for 13000 with 18000 miles on it. It's a 02, CD Silver. Don't do it.
10-17-2005, 09:39 PM
I traded in a black 2002 w/ 25,000 miles and got 7 grand for it. They will probably mark it 10,999. If anyone is in the south east michigan area looking for a 3 door svt, let me know, i can tell you how to get them down to 8 grand :P
