is it worth getting a short shifter? i would like to have one that actually shortens the throw alot and the hight of the shifter ne 1 nows of one?

steeda makes a good sts. If you get the ford racing it will be a tad cheaper, but it is a rebadged steeda.

Mines going in tomorrow, FRPP STS. Next item is the VF mount. Check out the how to sticky threads above for impressions.

I have the steeda and love it. Not tried or driven any others apart from factory one it came with.

The FRPP unit is A LOT cheaper then the Steeda.....both are identical.
I paid $80 for my Ford shifter....absolutely love it..

is there sts out there that keeps the stock height anyone know.. would be kinda hard to drive hunched over to the right side all of the time.. im like 6'5 so that why i asked :o) thanx

Absolutely get it, also get the rear engine mount at the same time. It'll feel like a whole new car![thumb]

FR Racing is the best STS for the SVTf, as it is cheaper than the Steeda...and that VF Rear mount is a great addition to the STS. A lot of us on here have done these mods and can attest to their greatness.... [:D]

Lol, Im 6'5"...love the FRPP STS.
Doesnt sit down much lower.

I got mine in this past weekend. Even though i absolutely love it, i wonder if it will get smoother with time, it seems a little harder, but more positive.

I bought a short shift but haven't installed it yet, might install it this weekend.

Mine was a tad rough when I first installed it, but its smooth as ever now.

^^^Same here, just be sure to use alot of that goop that comes in the package and work it for the first few days...it'll lighten up! [:)]

I have the Ford Racing STS (same as steeda as mentioned) and I love it! I think it's only a little over an inch shorter, I think 1 1/4" IIRC. And yes, it will loosen up over time and get smoother.

I just installed a steeda STS... amazing... shifter feels much more sturdy... I dont feel like I'm searching for gears anymore... great product!

I came up with 1-3/8" shorter, but it doesn't feel like it's that much further down.

I'm thinking now, just for peace of mind, i'm going to take it out and apply even more grease. You know thats what i said to myself after i did it, did i apply enough grease? I thought i did, but like i said, i need peace of mind. Either that or i worry to much.[:(]

I keep hearing about the VR rear engine mount (?) What exactly will benefit by this when installed in conjunction with the STS? Reasoning tells me it would stiffen up the tranny linkage to the shifter and thus not be affected by torque as much...is this correct? What does this feel like after installation?

I was looking inside another SVTF this weekend and it had the stock shifter in it....it looked wee-taw-ded!! Looked like it should have been in a school bus, lol.

I am one of the few here with the FocusCentral sts, and they are considerably shorter than the stock and the Steeda/Ford.

Because its shorter you loose a little leverage and it makes the shifts a little stiffer (which I like). I am 6'6" and have no issues reaching it, no slouching, etc. Not to mention, it doesnt look like it came out of a bus.

what about the VR engine mount? Anyone? Recommended/Cost?
