On the way back from Subway today, I got my ass handed to me by a turbo'd 95 Jetta.

That does it. I must go FI.

Thoughts, comments, advice?

Thanks Red.

Anyone else? Lessons learned, best practices?

A supercharger can't match the performance of a turbo.

I know some little SC guy is going to start crying "lag" (boo hoo) with todays newer designed turbos lag doesn't exist.

Turbo's make more power and definitly more torque, I'll put a turbo up against the powerworks kit ANY day.

Plus turbo's are far more upgradeable.....

I wouldn't go THAT far, but it ain't bad. Besides, once the boost kicks, any NA or SC car is done for.

*Edit, I just realised that this was in my FI post, not the leafblower one.

I would NEVER go SC. Turbo all the way, baby. Maybe NOS.

At 2k rpm I can hit the gas and the boost gauge goes instantly from vac to boost.....

Here's what a descent turbo can do with the right tuning....... also almost completly stock motor AND 93 octane gas......

And I'm not quite done with it either........

So, racing an NA SVT from a roll at say 20, you guys are about even until 3200 from what I see here, and then it's bye bye.

About right?

How about this for lag:

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid180/p75d04a7314b051fb546010702c7decf9/f2ed589e.jpg

The dip around 3100 was because I didn't expect the load to go so high so soon.... I had -6 degrees entered just to serve as a place holder in that timing table cell at the time.... I have since advanced the timing considerably.

Anyhow something like 150 WHP @ 3,300 / 175 WHP @ 3,600 / 200 WHP @ 4,000 / 255 WHP @ 5,800 isn't too bad on a twisty road.

Come on, Garrick. I'm sure that Albuquerque is big enough for two turbo'd Foci.

Besides, it would be fun for you and I to race and some poor sucker in an SRT/Civic/RSX-S/Boxter to get caught in the middle and have his ass handed to him by two Foci at the same time.

That would be hilarious.

Rolling 30 on Paseo, Focus | Porche | Focus. Third honk and everyone drops the hammer, all Mr. Porsche can hear is the whistle on either side of him as two Ford Focuses pull away and he... just... can't... catch them.

Ahhh... I am smiling now.

Albuquerque is not big enough! If your serious about fi, theres a very good chance I can sell you my old setup, but youll still need a tune

Also, don't forget that with more power comes more stress on the tranny.
The stock Focus manual tranny is rated to handle about 165 lbs of TQ from the crank.

If you're shooting to get around 200TQ/HP at the wheels, make sure to set aside or plan on doing some tranny upgrades in the near future.
