: turbo charged svt
zero visual 09-05-2005, 08:38 PM alright yall... i currently own a 02' zx3 but i want to purchase an svt engine w/tranny, turbocharge it then drop it in my focus... now 3 questions
1. does anyone kno how hard it would be to drop a svt into a zx3?
2. does the svt engine respond well to turbo's
3. should i just forget the svt and get a zx3 engine and turbo it?
SVT_BMXer 09-05-2005, 09:06 PM 1. Probably be a waste of money, just build your zetec
2. There is a guy on here running 19psi and making like 330-340whp on an all stock internal SVT
3. yes
zero visual 09-05-2005, 09:11 PM ya i was talking to a buddy of mine... vvt and turbo's don't go together at all...
so im just getting a used zx3 engine and building that... thanks
finalley 09-05-2005, 09:43 PM I don't know who your buddy is or where he gets his info ...but.. Mine is makin 304hp/317tq.[boxface]
build either ...one will be less work

at wat psi? and are wat is ur compression? hopefully not stock.
Daeron 09-05-2005, 11:26 PM VCT, not VVT [:)]
zero visual 09-05-2005, 11:40 PM so do u guys suggest i get an svt and turbo it? this is goin to be my daily driver

No, I suggest you work with what you have. It will be a lot cheaper and more practical in the end.
thats wat i was thinkin...
svtfiend 09-06-2005, 03:33 AM i don't know, the zx3's internals are pretty weak from what i've heard. there's a reason these guys are getting over 300 hp on stock svt internals. they're built to handle it. if you've got a duratec and have the money, i'd go with the cosworth kits that are highlighted in focus fanatics. stage1 and stage2 will give you 200 flywheel hp, the one they built put down over 170 at the wheels, and if i remember right almost 150 ft/lbs. if you're running a zetec, then, i don't know, i think i'd probably do the swap. but that duratec build by cosworth looks great. the stage 3 kit, which isn't street legal (ha, ha,ha) puts down 230 at the flywheel. whoo-hoo!!

SVT,not v v t, [rolleyes] ....19 lbs... about 8.7c/r ..no not stock, {check my profile},but I'm stupid like that...I wanted the engine to stay together at 19lbs...it's the least i could do..
Daeron 09-06-2005, 06:44 AM ^^^ not to bash you, but I was commenting on his use of VVT, correcting him to state that our cars have VCT, not VVT. If he wasn't talking about an SVT, he'd be in the wrong place, now wouldn't he? [:p]
finalley 09-06-2005, 06:51 AM I figured it was a typo either way...[scratch]

zero visual 09-06-2005, 11:06 AM first off... if i do go with the svt engine... do i need to fabricate the engine mounts?
zero visual 09-06-2005, 10:39 PM bump
finalley 09-06-2005, 11:13 PM If I were to guess you'd just use an svt mount...but then you're gonna use the 6 speed trans? then what about the cables and mounting points? ecu? wiring harness?.........
I'd A. stay with your xz and turbo or
B. buy an SVT then turbo
zero visual 09-07-2005, 12:10 AM so its gonna be a bitch to drop an svt motor into my zx3?

That would be me, best run was 332whp at 19psi on 93 octane. I prefer the 329whp tune I have now.... picked up about 13wtq with it.
Either way you go its gonna suck and be expensive. you can get a fully built motor in the 4-5k range. If you go ZX3 the turbo kit will probaly be cheaper..... maybe $8,000 for built engine and turbo kit... then there's installation, tuning, tranny upgrades... its a never ending project.
OR you could just turbo the motor you have now, make a round 170-200whp drive it and be happy[thumb]
