i use to own a 97 grand prix gtp. which was a supercharged 6cyl. on that car i could only run premium fuel. now i own a 02 ford focus zx3 and i am considering nitrous as a power adder. do i need to run premium fuel to run nitrous or can i run 87?[???:)]

I think when you add nitrous you want to run colder plugs and higher octane fuel.

Yea the higher octane will help your car not detonate as easy, which is bad especially when your running nitrous. I use 93 and 92 oct everyday........[V]

Yes, definitely higher octane, ping is your enemy

One more chiming in. You want to run as high an octane gas as you can easily get. You can argue that nitrous will run on 87 ( it will ), but it is simply not worth the risk of a hole in a piston.

I was told that 93 is good to a 75 shot then anything after that 100+ octane was needed and timing was to be pulled

The NOS Manual for the Focus kit calls for at least 92 octane and 2 steps colder on the plugs if you are running the NOS at 50HP.

Octane helps with nitrous... It is good with any kind of forced induction, which nitrous is,... The problem with detonation is, you may not always here it with youir ears. It can be very slight, but still enough to damage the engine over time. Always play it safe with nitrous, especially to start!
