: Meth injection question

While on the dyno we were playing around with some methanol in a spray bottle, Tom was showing me how good it cooled. I was amazed how just a couple of quick squirts and a little breeze could cool metal down so fast.

So I decided to order the SnowPerformance stage 2 meth injection with the boost switch. We were looking into where to place it, and the idea came up about mounting the injectors in the charge pipe BEFORE the intercooler so it could cool quicker and give the meth a chance to dissapate before it got the the MAF.

So, whats your thoughts??

i still would spary after the i maf, so it is cold going in.. but maybe i would also put it in the itake manifold as a small shot also. b\c i was sparying full blast on my s\c, w\ straight 200 proof achol. i wanted to spary after the charger also so it was cool it a little more. i wanted my temps lower. o well s\c gone now.

i have used both grain and wood achol. grain a little batter.

the reason why i wouldnt spary it before the ic is, because it wouldnt really get any cooler going throw the ic. but you can say it would dissipate before the intake manifold. so that my 2 cents.

We used to alcohol inject bikes and it worked very well to avoid det. with the turbo kits. But this was with Carbed machines, we did inject it after the carb... There used to be a company that made a very cool tank that was the rear liscense plate holder, neat piece..

You do not want to spray anything before the MAF, if that alcohol gets on the sensor you will peg the MAF at 4.8+ volts and run so rich you may damage something.

For what I know it is not a good idea spray before the intercooler.

How much better is putting the MAF after the turbo, this is something that is not really clear in my mind. let say that the maf is readind 3.0volts before the turboand the boost is set at 20psi at that moment , would it still read 3.0 volts if it blown thru under the same condition?.

What the volts would be is hard to say , It will depend on many things

How far after or before a bend the MAF is installed
What size MAF housing
Size of the piping

And a few more things

If you dont cool it before the MAF housing wouldn't that throw off you maf readings? Like the MAF would be reading say 94* IAT and you'ld actually have air in the cylinder several degrees cooler?

Just off set the iat, spray in between maf and iat. may have to correct thechanges in advance depending on iat readings.

c-f-m has an IAT relocation kit that allows you to remove the IAT wiring from the factory MAF unit and relocate the sensor elsewhere. when SCC mag installed the PTE kit on their SVT, they had to do this to get accurate charge air temps.

I don't think it would cool as much but what about spraying on the outside of the intercooler that way you wouldn't have to worry about the iat and maf. I guess that's the easy way out and leaving too much power untapped.
If theres enough room I would think the areas where the alcahol could expand and evaporate the quickest would give the most drop in temprature Intercooler or just after throttlebody right whare the plenium starts.

If you can set it up to spray only at a surtan temp. or boost level or maybee a knock sensor I think after the throttle body giving just enough room to give each cyl. a good cool mix would be good and if it don't hurt the sensors the intercooler on the hot side pipe at the inlet.

I'm just thinking here I don't realy know nothin[:)]

They spray on the outside of the intercooler and the colder the intercooler is the cooler it makes the air inside.They also make somthing that actualy fits inside of the piping and the no2 cools the peice inside of the pipe and then the gas vents outside of the intake. When you find a place that sells one of these systems they usualy sell them both and they are used together first coolin the peice inside of the intake and then venting through the peice that sprays onto the intercooler through some tubing infront of the intercooler

From what I understand the water meth does more to prevent detonation I wouldn't think it would reduce the iat as mush as the nos but a little water sure does slow down a flame
