I'm not a smoker and I've never used the lighter for anything else either. Well, I bought a Cobra radar detector and nothing happened when I plugged it in and started it up. I know the detector's fine because it works in my brother's Blazer.
There's something wrong with the lighter because I tried using the lighter itself and it never got hot. I'm thinking the fuse is loose or something (sometimes happens to my sunroof).
Can anyone offer any suggestions? Do I actually have to take it to a garage (just got it back yesterday, don't wanna do that again...)?
All help is appreciated. Thanks.

Did you check all of your fuses? That'd be the first thing i would check.
If that doesn't work then i might try getting behind there and making sure all the connections are tight. But the first and most important thing is the fuses.

I have no idea how to check the fuses. The panel under the steering wheel, or under the hood? What exactly am I looking for?

its the panel under the steering wheel on the left side. just line up the chart from your user manual to the fuse panel. once you find the one that is for the lighter pull it out with tongs that are on the panel. once the fuse is pulled out put it up to light and see if the metal in the center is broken. if it is it needs to be replaced just put a new one in. just make sure that it is the same color. the color indicates the amps.

OK, assume for a minute that I don't have an owner's manual, lol. Do you know what # it is? And you said the tongs are included ???

lol, the tongs are to pull the fuses out. its a little plastic thing that should be on the fuse cover. if your car doesnt have one then just find a pair of needle nose pliers. if you dont have a manual its going to be kinda hard to tell you which one it is w/o a pic to match up. the ford dealerships have those if you live close to one.

Fuse #46 and it's a blue 15amp

Thanks guys. On the back of the panel cover it shows which fuse is what. I couldn't find any included tongs...? So i used regular tweezers from the bathroom and they wouldn't get it out. Also, can I buy a new one at like AutoZone or something?

yeah, you can buy fuses at any auto parts store. its a good idea to keep a varity pack around.

I'm not sure if you can buy just 1. The smallest I ever seen them was in a package of 5. It's always good to have some extra fuses.

When you get the fuse out, look and see if the little wire is burned into, or solid. If the fuse is good, and the wire is solid, look inside the lighter socket for a bunch of dirt and grime. That's the problem I'm having with mine at the moment. Thankfully there's another outlet down on the console in my SVTF that I can use for the radar detector.
