: V8 Focus
CatMostFeared 06-02-2005, 05:45 AM I thinking of going with a V8 in the ZX3
Drop in a nice Corba motor and go out and kickass

gump1114 06-02-2005, 07:13 AM go for it
faultlessfocus 06-02-2005, 08:23 AM Dang man, only around $8,000 for all the parts, thats pretty hefty. I would rather go buy a stang for that much...Jees...but hey, it would STILL ROCK doing a big rwd burnout in the FOCUS
Last I checked for a V8 conversion (Cobra) the total cost was around $10,000USD plus shipping (big cost) and plus labor which will be HUGE!
www.fordracingparts.com has a catalog on there with the conversion parts, etc.
p0sitivevibez 06-02-2005, 10:55 AM A v-6 would be sweet and probably a lot less expensive!
ztecpower 06-02-2005, 11:00 AM I can't evan say what you guys are saying..... Just thinking about the cost kills me,
A v-6 does sound like a better alternative but the v-8 would rule all !!
can you immagine..... a rwd focus at the track ?? holy sh** !!
CatMostFeared 06-02-2005, 02:46 PM I bought this car to build a focus is what I wanted to make go fast.
I also have a 4x4 Black F150 SuperCrew with 20s on it.I cant decided
on dropping a v8 in it on go with turbo on the 4 banger.V8 would make
more like a street machine but I want to stay with a tunerz style ride.
Why a Focus for one I work for ford, and I did want to spend $15,000 and up on a mustang that I was going to tear apart and build.I bought my Focus for $4000 cash time I sink another $11,000 it will kick some ass.I drive it daily but I dont have to.For $15,000 I'll have 350hp turbo
focus eibach suspension larger brakes saleen body kit(at the body shop now) and still get around 28 miles per gal.
but to do the V8 kit right I'll spend around $22,000 so I need to figure out what I need to plan for.

Sting2324 06-02-2005, 03:07 PM Screw the turbo, go with the V8!
BlackNRed01 06-02-2005, 03:28 PM with wehat turbo kit will you get 350 whp?
faultlessfocus 06-02-2005, 03:31 PM Dont plan on driving it on the street anymore either with 350--sheesh
p0sitivevibez 06-02-2005, 03:34 PM I can relate. Ive wanted a ZX3 ever since I saw them in 8th grade. They just look frikin sweet. Couple that with some American muscle and you got the perfect combo. Stangs are cool, but theres something about hatchbacks that blow everything else away. How much of the conversion can you do yourself do you think?
CatMostFeared 06-02-2005, 04:02 PM 350-320hp not a problem.I'm going to build the motor not just slap on a turbo kit.
CatMostFeared 06-02-2005, 04:11 PM now check this out
SVT Focus: $19,205. SVT Cobra: $36,200. Running bumper-to-bumper with Porsche Turbos light after light: Priceless.

but isn't that car only running 12's???????? *on street tires*
eather way you go 350 turbo and a v8 will not be pretty on the pocket. I think if you were to do it correctly and build the engine all the way and the trans up all the way, and then a full suspension, i think you would be better off going with the V8...Start with the 302....then slowly build the 302, and kill a lot of cars out there...
RS3RS 06-04-2005, 01:51 PM Mmmm... V8, RWD Focus... That would be awesome.
Zyghot 06-04-2005, 02:05 PM I'm also trying to do a V8 swap in my car, I'm not going too fancy with it just a basic 302 and i'm still debating wether I want it to be manual or automatic. Only problem I have so far is trying to find a buyer for my 2.3L i currently have in the car. But once that's sold I should be on my way to building it. I was also considering doing a Cosworth buildup to my current motor. but hey, you just can't beat having a good ol' fashioned v8 in your car.
CatMostFeared 06-04-2005, 02:34 PM with the V8 swap I'm looking around $10,000 for a stock 300hp V8
or for $10,000 a 400Hp 2.0 Zetec thats handles awesome.
What I wold like is to put a mustang rear end and 5speed trans in a focus
with a 2.0 turned straight so I could have a 400hp 2.0 with rear wheel drive.
CatMostFeared 06-04-2005, 02:36 PM how about a escape chassic with a focus body AWD 2.0
5 speed focus
Focus_sucoF 06-08-2005, 10:23 AM theres alot cheaper ways to do it then 10k im looking 5k and doing it myself with a nice motor. spend time looking for what u wanna buy. I paid 600$ for a eod tranny and a 4.6 with 50k miles on it with computer. build it a little buy the kit 3300$ im also tubing out the rear changing it to mustang cobra wheels. do the freakin work urself dont pay people to work on ur own damn car have some pride in your shit.
tazz3131 06-08-2005, 10:44 AM all i have to say is wow... and thats friggin sweet thinkin...
Gismo 06-08-2005, 10:53 AM That will be tha last mod ill do to my car. Like 5 yrs from now. All you guys are forgetting the money that you will make back by selling your current engine.
Focus_sucoF 06-10-2005, 03:44 AM selling the zetec engine isnt as easy as said...
CatMostFeared 06-10-2005, 01:18 PM I seen them sell for $500 to $1500 depending on how bad someone needs one.

KesTrel 01-02-2006, 09:17 PM marty talk to 03OrangeSVT (Jon). If you want to consider turbo talk to him, hes in southren ohio not that far away.
HaveBlue83 01-03-2006, 11:38 AM shoot DIY and save yourself some money!!!
al007ex 01-03-2006, 12:15 PM I would go AWD turbo, you can easily do that for the price of the RWD V8. And AWD would be a blast. I have all the info you need if you are thinking about the AWD. I also have some parts.
whynotthinkwhynot 01-03-2006, 01:46 PM Albrainya... sweet job. How'd the hood do with a TB and air cleaner assembly?
Catmostfeared: Their Cobra motor install is nice, but the 302 weighs at least 100 lbs less than the DOHC motors even with a cast iron block. MORE POWER TO YA with either motor!!!!
Albrainya 01-03-2006, 05:38 PM no problem closing the stock hood. the whole thing fts nicely. it will look completely stock on the outside when done. Thanks for the kind words
Why build one when there's one for sale?

I have seen this car in person. It is one of the most contradicting things you will ever see. You hear this nice muscle car deep rumble and see this ZX3 slowing rolling up. I've never seen more people stop to turn and stare at any car than when this thing showed up at an autocross I was at.
focusonthefocus 01-03-2006, 06:38 PM not streetable.
Not streetable? He drove it on public roads to get it to the autocross. It didn't come off a trailer.
Dispraiser 01-03-2006, 10:50 PM Do it! A focus is so light, the tires wouldn't even grip. You floor it and that thing would just sit there with the tires spinning for a few moments.
That's why they make traction bars and other parts to accomodate for such things.
Dispraiser 01-03-2006, 11:43 PM Doesn't matter, I think it'd still work like that, pretty much. A focus is avery light car. With RWD, how much weight is in the back, even? I wish my foci would do that...
I haven't driven it, so who knows? Maybe I should go bug him for a test drive since he lives in my city after all.
