Then that developes cracks that moisture gets into (and the road salt) then the fun begins. That moisture and salt make it rust faster. I grew up in minnesota and that is what happened back then. revamp 05-26-2005, 07:04 AM Back in the day they just did chassis greasing, usually...which resulted in the problems you described. I got my car rustproofed at Ziebart shortly after I first got it. I chose them after doing some lengthy research on the web. They do a nice undercoating on the car, good for sound deadening, too. They also access all the door panels, the hatch, etc to spray their inhibitor (it's like a wax) inside all the lower metal pieces. The bad parts are that the process adds about 25lbs to the car and also that they rust coat the entire engine bay. They guarantee their work for like 10 yrs or something (no rust), but I voided my warranty by removing all their rust proofing crap from the engine bay and hood when I got home (didn't know they were going to do that part) Random hero 05-26-2005, 07:42 AM I got mine done by Krown, I was going to get the deal from the dealer, 700 CDN for 12 year rust proof...but it was a little to much money. Krown's $100 and you have to get it redone every year & everyone around here says its the best in the area. Plus I dont think I will have this focus for longer than 5-7 years so I see no value in the dealers package. They did everything but the interior for me, and my engine bay. Thing that I really dont like about it is that, while it gets to every little area of the car, it still drips (their motto is if it doesn't drip it doesn't work) and whenever I wash my car (its been 2 months since I bought the car and got the rust proof done) I see little black streaks on the side skirts. But its good to know the stuff is working like they say it does. Apparently the dripping will completely stop in a few weeks.... DrRay 05-27-2005, 03:48 PM The newer rustproofing is a low-melt wax that re-seals itself constantly. I've never seen anyone prove that it helps against rusting. The rust problem is in cold climates due to condensation, which can form under the rustproofing. Check those guarantees, they are usually full of holes and bring a big magnifying glass for the small print. | |
