Hello, my name is Alex and I'm new here. I'm 16 years old and I own a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS with Zetec engine. I'm looking to "supercharge" my car this summer. I have about $5,000 to spend and I can get some help from my parents. First, I have some questions. How will "supercharging" increase the performance of my Focus? Where and how can I "supercharge" my vehicle. How much will the insurance go up? How much does it cost all together?

I'm not exactly sure, but I think "supercharging" a car increases the torque and horsepower. I think my Focus has 135 HP. I'm not sure about that either. Sorry for all the questions. I have little knowledge in this field and I just want to get the facts before I do anything stupid. Please don't flame me. Thanks for your time.

Alex,
If you have an automatic transmission and convertor, you will need to replace it with one from Lentec. The stocker will not take the abuse. Have your parents take care of that for you if needed...$3k set back.
If you have a 5 speed, there are some great bolt on kits out there for your car.
The only one that works out the box with the auto tranny is the Jakson Racing supercharger (get the Ford Racing big boost kit for it) . Vortec, Cosworth, Focus Sport, and ATI all have supercharger kits for the Zetec.
Prices range from around $2800 to $5k. The Cosworth has the best power, and is the most expensive...and probably the best supercharger set up out of the box.
You need to read up on the forums to get some idea of what you are dealing with. There's lots of differences in the kits. Roots vs centrifugal blowers, blower sizes, tuning provided(injectors, maf, ECU flash), intercooled...CARB certified....
As far as power out of the box, anywhere from 150HP/129TQ to the wheels to 200+hp/180tq to the wheels.
The best thing you can do is kick back for a while and read up. If $$$ aren't an issue, go Cosworth.
