: Very Frustrated ( rattle )

Alright well im just at the brink of losing my mind. Today driving around i came to a stop light had the clutch disengaged and i heard a rattle. When i press the gas the rattle gets louder. also when its idling i can feel a slight vibration in the shift knob. Its just weird and it just started i hadn't felt it b4. Does any1 know what it could be? Also i noticed when i turned the wheel the rattle would either get louder or get quieter for a few seconds then get louder again. If this is something major i think im just gonna have to sell the car i can't take this anymore.. any1 that help me out thanks! [:(] teh reason im so frustrated it is that i just got the money together to start building her up and it just seems like i always end up taking 1 step fwd and 10steps back its just frustrating now i love this car so much but its just killing me

heat shield rattle? I know it's not the clutch TSB prob because you have aftermarket stuff. If it is doing it at idle, you should pretty easily be able to tell where the rattle is coming from, which would give us better info in order to help you [:)]

it's not the fidanza rattle, is it? how long have you had your flywheel? they always make that marbles-in-a-can sound

First thing that came to my mind was your clutch, but noticing that you have an aftermarket set-up Im not sure.

yeah ive had the flywheel for about a month now would a wheel bearing make that kind of a noise or the infamous throw out bearing?
05-12-2005, 10:30 AM
pressure plate??? Does it go totally away when you ingauge the clutch at idle?
05-12-2005, 10:34 AM
yes it does
05-12-2005, 12:00 PM
it doesnt sound like awheel bearing
05-12-2005, 02:37 PM
might be the throwout bearing...were you having probs with the oem clutch and that's why you went to the aftermarket?
05-12-2005, 03:26 PM
yeah my oem clutch was a big problem that swhy i just switched over to the aftermarket

Don't know if this will help...but @ around 1800-2000 rpm I had a rattle..had a friend get in the car and get it to the rpm's listed above at idle and I found a loose washer on the heat shield over the cat...didn't look stock to me so I took the beaver mind bender off....

My 03 SVTF's been doing what sounds like the same thing (I can somewhat control this noise by engaging/disengaging the clutch). Mechanic said it was clutch throw-out bearing so he replaced but noise remained. (???) Shifting is clean and from what I've read it's just a matter of time before I'll need to replace the entire clutch assembly. I'm just gonna drive mine and save up for the good aftermarket stuff. GOOD LUCK!

I was thinking about this recently. From what I remember of OEM clutches and the rattles they produce is not from the parts themselves, but rather the way they were installed. Prehaps when your aftermarket clutch was installed it was misaligned or installed improperly. Just a thought, but in order to remedy the problem you would have to drop the trans and redo the entire installation.

Check this thread:
I was having a rattle and just figured it out this weekend. I don't have a cat heatshield and have already had the clutch TSB done. This part does seem a bit thin.

Definitely check the cat bracket like pspringe links his thread to. I had my car in for starting issues and I had them search for a rattle similar to yours and this is what they changed. No more rattle now either. Hopefully its just this and not clutch.

Okay I have the same problem only mine ONLY occurs when im at low RPM's in gear not TOO low but low IE 2-3 grand while in gear and decelerating or taking off in first gear gradually...Not a clutch but my two bottom bolts on my header sheild are rusted off but i dont thing that is it i put it on ramps and i had someone rev it and it sounds like the cat but EVERYTHINGS SECURE AND TIGHT????
Second nonrelated question if i take off my header heat sheild would it burn the fan or anything or is it best to leave it on....???
LASTLY could someone tell me how to get a picture of my car under my name??????

I can only answer your first question, and that sounds like the rattle I had that is this broken cat support. Its hard to see it, but it rusts through and vibrates on itself.

yeah i just gave up on it i just drive it like that with my new job and my summer school schedule i don't have to the time to deal with this nonsense if it breaks im just leaving it on the side of the highway lol
