rockthezx3 05-12-2005, 12:24 AM So yeah, what started out as a very quiet ticking sound, which I thought was my injectors, has turned very loud, and I realized it's my valves. Anyone else have this problem? And if so, how did you resolve it? I'm due for an oil change, so I'll probably just have Ford take care of it for me. It's driving me friggin insane though! Muzzy 05-12-2005, 01:19 AM Hmm, I had a similar problem, but I doubt it was caused by the same thing. The actuator that opens up the valves on start-up had broke loose on my car, I mean it's pretty obvious if this does happen, there will be a cable on the drivers side of the engine going up and down like crazy. crazymechanic 05-12-2005, 09:33 AM muzzy, you're thinking of the DSI manifold, I believe that rock is talking about the actual valves in the cylinder head WD40 05-12-2005, 03:40 PM How many miles are you up to now? The mechanical valve train is rather noisy to begin with, and it most likely will be worse if you're overdue for an oil change. jaykirs 05-12-2005, 03:54 PM You could always fill the crank case with 90W gear lube,,, just kidding! On a serious note, WD might be on to something because when I was overdue for an oil change, I noticed my valve train making more noise than usual but when I changed the oil, it went back to normal sound levels. Ford recommends changing the oil every 5000 miles if I am not mistaken?? I usually change mine every 3000 like most people do. crazymechanic 05-12-2005, 05:56 PM our DOHC engines have MECHANICAL valvetrains, so we have a certain amount of valve lash (space between cam lobes and tappet buckets). this lash causes noise. it IS adjustable with new buckets, but valve lash is properly set at the factory, and unless you've had the cams out of the head, you probably don't need any adjustment. we have noisy engines rockthezx3 05-13-2005, 11:25 PM I have 39k miles on it, and I get an oil change every 3000 miles, and I've gone about 3200 since my last oil change, so I guess I'm 200 miles overdue.
