: Mazda 5 Coming This Summer
05-09-2005, 04:20 PM
Mazda will have the Mazda5, a small five-seat minivan, this summer in the United States. What do you think? I kinda dig it! Yeah, it's a small mini-van - but it looks pretty good to me. Pricing will start around $17k for the Sport model and $18.9k for the Touring model. It will have the 2.3L - same as the Mazda 3 and '05 Focus ST.
The 2006 MAZDA5 is an unprecedented multifaceted vehicle that combines the dimensions, ease of use and value of a compact, and the sophistication, refinement, and features of a premium import, with the ability to offer seating for six or a wide variety of passenger/cargo combinations.

Think "slightly stretched version of the MZ3 5 door" and you pretty much have it. Don't think I'll be trading in my 3 for one though, it looks a little too "minivanish" for my tastes.

those tails are ugly. nice looking vehicle though. I'd drive it.

ya man..that pretty much is a mini van...that rear door slides back!!
i like the interior but the shape is too like a minivan, but itll probably grow on me

my wife said it looks like a sportfied minivan and its ugly... LOL
I have to agree with her... not exactly my type o' tuna :P
for some reason i see a mitsu Expo or any of thouse mitu spacewagon/expos from late 80's and early 90's
thouse thing were too small to be minivans and yet the were minivans...

I think it is a great package for under $19k! A loaded Touring model is supposed to have an MSRP of about $18.9k. I have never cared for minivans myself, but I like the looks of this one - and, it has a lot of interior space for the price level too.

kinda looks like a stretched out scion xa to me.

It's probably the best looking minivan i've ever seen...but still a minivan haha

it looks pretty cool.....i think they sell....man mazda is going to be doing great...with the already hot 3, 6, miata, rx-8 and the mazda speed versions of them, now with this coming in, and then possibly the 250hp mazdaspeed 3....they are going to be bringing in the sales.

I would buy one. No kidding, I am looking for a family truckster for the wife to haul the kids (2) around town/schoo/sports etc. Wife doesn't want a clucky old mini-van. This would fit the bill perfectly especially when her folks fly into town and we can take all 6 of us in 1 vehicle.
The Europeans have had 6 seat "people movers" for years, take a look at the Ford Galaxy and the VW Sahara for the direct competitor of this vehicle. We rented a VW Sahara when I was stationed in Germany for a trip to Munchen. Took out 1 seat and 5 big old burly Army guys with baggage fit perfectly.

I was thinking the same thing.
I do like the front end of it. The rear, not so sure about. It reminds me of a Nissan Altima, sorta.

I think it looks pretty good as far as minivans go, except for the tails. Of cours seating for six just doesn't meet our needs.

What do you think most people say the Focus ZX3 and 5 look like???
I also heard Mazda Speed is building a Mazda3 that will be turbocharged and deliver 270HP. Sounds like the Focus RS is making to the US in a different guise.

It's not too bad for a minivan I think...
In a couple of those shots it just looks like a hatch that's been stretched a little.

lol.. i thought it looked just like a bigger Scion Xa too!... hmm.... it's pretty kewl i think:)

Damn, just think about the possibilities...
If MazdaSpeed makes a turbo 2.3L w/AWD set up!!!
Wow, you could have a 6 spd manual, 270 hp, AWD turbo-charged MINI-VAN!!!!!
I would love to have one of those and go SRT-4 or Cobalt SS hunting (insert evil laughter here)

Hey flat 4. Big change in performance from stock with your intake/exhaust setup? I'm waiting on that new AEM cai. Guess we get the 5 rather than the C-MAX. Kinda cool. Seen the Golf plus? Equally cool.

Tails are wayyyyyyy to Alteza. I like everything else though.

True, tails have got to go. Other thatn that I kinda like the front end.
05-12-2005, 03:07 PM
Yeah, those tails are way played out!

For a minivan I like the design. It's actually pretty classy looking.
It reminds me of a more square Toyota Matrix.

IDK. I took my car in for warrenty work yesturday & saw one of these on the lot. At first site I was thinking it was a Suzuki Aero Wagon. After I walked by it & saw the mazda logo on it I was like WTF. Then saw that it said 5 on it. So yeah, I guess they are starting to make it to dealers, unless this was a test mule that I saw[???:)] Looked @ the mazda website & they still have it listed as a future car

That little short side window at the back and them huge ass chrome bling bling rear lights look awful together. I'd have to see it in person, but something is putting me off with the pics. I'm not to thrilled with the shape. It looks boring, nothing new...definately not keeping with the 3,6,or 8.

we should be getting a few into our dealership this week. Car is very well priced can come with a 5 speed manual and a 4 speed auto with sport shift. Grand Touring autmaticly comes with Navigation which is a nice touch for a MSRP of just over 21k i think this car will do well. The Mazda MPV will no longer exist in 06
