you have to complain about a hard start, surging while cruising, battery light flicker problem. as long as your car still has warranty, it'll get done for free

AHHH.... so there was a light that flickered....I could have sworn I saw one of the red light flicker on while I was driving, I thought I was going nuts. I thought the surging was just because its a compact car, man Im a moron. I just didnt want to ask, this is my first little car, I thought this crap was normal. How long does it take them to do the flash thing. Is it somthing they will be like ehh...drvie it in or make an appointment and waste a friggin day. Also can I take it to any ford dealer and expect them to know whatthe hell Im talking about?

in reality, it takes about 15 minutes to reprogram the computer. but they'll tell you that you need to leave it for at least an hour, and of course, they have to look up the TSB about the reflash, so add another hour cuz most ford techs don't know how to look that stuff up on the internet

You will be surprised how many dealers will have no idea what you are talking about! I had at least two separate Ford Dealers laughing at me, because they thought I was talking out of my hind parts...goobers.

The flash doesn't take long, but like crazymechanic said, they'll ask you to leave it there for the day...why? Because that's how dealers operate, and we can't question that. [rolleyes]

Just make sure to have a list of what is 'wrong' with the car...i.e., surging, dash lights flickering, bad idle, rough idle, slow return to idle...stuff like that. Alrighty, Rock on and good luck to you.

Just tell them that you need the PCM updated to the latest flash because you are experiencing ^^^^^...the whole thing takes maybe 15 min to do.

Thanks for the help, they wont give me crap about my intake, or lack of two mufflers will they. Also this flash is new for everyone right, meaning that my 04 doesnt have the new one?

They shouldn't. PCM update is just that, an update. You aren't looking to have any "work" done other then that.

what if my warranty is over already. would it cost me 100 bucks for the update or does it work like a recal regardless of mileage.

Not sure if PCM flashes are part of the extended powertrain warranty. I'd say if you are going to spend 100 bucks at the dealer, might as well get an aftermarket tune and have better gains out of it.

I just tried having them put the new flash in cause I'm having the same problems but he said well check it out and he has never heard of it. What should I do now?

Yep...been there. Move on to the next dealer.

They looked at me like I was stupid, too. Just ask for the latest update for the PCM flash and you want to know the code of it after it is done (most of them just hook it up and the diag computer will tell them if there is an update or not). The OBDII diag computer should say what version is on there as well (if I understand what I've read on it correctly).
