well just thought id share this, i was leaving the mall yesterday and this 5.0 mustang gt pulls up beside me, i think it was an 02 it had the ram air hood. he started revvin up his engine and he was a little bit ahead of me on the line. the light turned green and he got me off acceleration cause my car is slow of the line, i was about 2 car lengths behind when i shifted into 2nd gear. i got pretty close to him going into 3rd gear, i stopped racing him at about 100-110 when i shifted into 4th in fear of cops LOL. i was surprised that he only beat me by about 3 car lengths which i didn't think was possible. anyways just thought i would share that cause it like really impressed me that my car is that quick

personally i think he was toyin' with you, a 5.0 vs an '03 focus, good luck. but hey if it happened ur a lucky man with a focus

1: The 02 was a 4.6l V8, not a 5.0. Completely different engines. For future reference, Ford stopped using the old 5.0 in the Mustang in 1996.

2: Those cars have 260 horsepower and will do 13s stock.

3: 3rd gear tops out around 80-85. You didn't shift into fourth at 100-110.

The mod list in your profile indicates that you have I/H/E, which, if your car is feeling particularly generous, is a 5 speed, is a zetec, and has a good driver behind the wheel is good for mid 15s at best.

You MIGHT have beaten him if it was a V6, but any V8 stang, even the non-PI headed pre-99 one should be dusting your car. I am raising the BS flag.

well i'm not really sure what model mustang it was, i'm not a mustang enthusiast nor do i care to be one, all i know is it was a GT, and about the comment of him toying with me i highly doubt it, because i could hear him getting to his redline and he had smoke comin out of his exhuast

A friend of mine had a 5.0 and I know for a fact it would smoke the [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]** out of my car. I know for a fact that my zx3 is faster than my moms 91 z28, talk about a freakin' slead.

by the way, its an auto, and a convertible so its a little heavy.

I do have to agree with the toying with you comment, when my ZX3 was pretty much stock only a few bolt ons, my friend had a stock 2000 GT and he was able to smoke me by far worse than that, his car ran 14.0 sec 1/4mile, and against a mid to low 16 second car, that would almost be bus lengths

If so, he was toying if it really was a V8. Oh and btw, like said above its a 4.6! And another thing, I raced a Focus ZX3 with header, full exhaust and intake (maybe some other mods) at the track once in my stock 5.0 and beat it by over 2 seconds, 14.0 to a 16.2... And you should know that is a lot more then 3 car lengths.

I raced a 5.0 the other day. I dont know if it was a GT. I just seen the 5.0 badge on the fender. It weas from about a 5 mph roll, we both left the stoplight slowly then he got on it so I was like what the hell, why not. I stomped it, he had me through first, when I got to second I started pulling ahead, by the time we hit 80-85 I had him by about a car length. The mustang was black and it was a dude and his Girlfriend, might of been around a '90-'93.

really? thats strange....but the fact that this guys SE is within car lenghts on a GT mustang is just stupid...I have a 2002 ZTS i have an intake and thats it but for me to be at 100-110 i am not going into 4th gear by no means...i too raise the BS flag either that or the kid felt that his racing at 50 mph felt like 100+ ah well....better luck next time against a smaller engine kid

Before i put turbo in my ZX3... i race my friends 97 mustang GT and he pull me in 3rd gear. 1st and 2nd i was right next to him, don't remember the rpm but i would said almost when shifting to 3rd gear that's when he just started to pull away. we started around 5mph and then roll from there. After we race and got home i ask him if he actually step on the car, because i couldn't believe that my car stay right next to him in the first 2 gears..

and as far shifting to 4th @ 100-110 ,, that's BS... now if he would it said i was in 4th gear that's a diffrent story... but then the govenor will take over AT 107 i think...

those mid 90s gt's were definitely not the fastest but theyre still well out of reach for most foci

I have an SVT Focus with all the bolt ons and it runs REAL strong, I also have a 2000 GT with a couple of bolt ons. The only way an SE with bolt ons could keep up with a GT is to shoot it out of a big ass cannon. My GT is an automatic and gets rubber when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd somewhere between 75 and 80mph. Trust me, the guy was F'n with you.

Think, with ALL your bolt ons you may have 120 whp and about the same torque, the 4.6 GT averages around 220whp and 257wtq, thats taking into consideration of 15% loss due to the drivetrain.

Yes indeed, he was playing with you. Even if he short shifted and you hit red line I dont think you could hang with him. But if it was a V6 Stang you should be able to hang with him or maybe even take him.

I raced a newer style GT (not the brand new one) at the track the very first time racing at this place and in a focus. He had a shitty launch and we were neck and neck. I actually trapped a slightly better 1/8 than him (10.86 to his 11.02). We were neck and neck until about a lil more past 1/2 way. Then he just started pulling nicely on me and ahead by about .3 seconds by the end (16.55 to his 16.2). And he sucked terribly... like me. So yeah, the third gear in a newer GT is very strong and he was a cool guy. He said it was his first time too and he was just experimenting with different launches like Jessica and I.

It's all relative, when you've got a Cobra, a GT, and a TSi, of course 16 seconds doesn't seem quick. But I think "quick" is a fair term for 16 seconds, I don't think anyone called that "fast" which would surely be a stupid thing to say. But when you factor a 16 second quarter mile into the "big picture" of all the various cars and trucks out there (not just new ones, but all the cars and trucks on the road) 16 seconds isn't THAT bad, but I sure wouldn't be bragging about it either.

As for the Mustang of the original post, perhaps it was a V6 model with a dual exhaust? I was behind one getting on the freeway the other day, it was a newish V6 with a lame bodykit and a dual exhaust, it was not fast and it was blowing oil smoke out the exhaust - but when I lane-changed to the left and punched it to get around him his pride was hurt or something and he changed over right in front of me forcing me to slam on the brakes, and then proceeded to putter along without accelerating. [rolleyes]

I HATE PEOPLE LIKE THAT!!....but anyways there is a V6 stang around here with a Steeda body kit and all that shit....i was dissapointed to learn it was a v6 and AUTOTRAGIC!

well today i actually got a chance to get on it, and i found this from my car, i have no idea what rpm i am at with these speeds, i just know that my car is near the rev limit whatever factory is set at, i shift into second at 32 mph, shift into third around 50-55, about 80 going into 4th, not really sure going into 5th but i think it's around 105 and i think once i got it to 110 but my engine was screaming LOL, this is different from what i had previously said in my post, for some reason i was thinkin i was in a different gear, anyways that's it for me and my car, i'm working again and the next thing i'm getting is camshafts of focussport, dyno charts looks good on them, adds about 13 hp according to the chart.

the SVTF hits 4th at 90-100. std focus not a [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]g chance.
