I have a rattling sound in my car, I think from the engine compartment not exactly sure. It only rattles a a certain rpm. Just under 2,000 rpms. Every time I rev past it, it makes the rattling sound for an instant or when the revs drop under it, it makes the sound for an instant. If I try and keep it in that rpm range, which is about a 50 rpm range(just a guestimate), it keeps making the sound. Any ideas what this could be?

Sounds like one of your heat shields has come loose and is vibrating. It's comon for our cat shields to do this. Crawl under the car and check the cat heat shield, that may be the culprit.

I agree with jay, if it sounds like a buzzing noise coming out from underneath the car then it's probably the heat shield. Happened to me about a year ago, they put a clamp on it and the buzzing has never been back.

I had the same problem. IT was the heat shield on the cat, as the others have said. I'd put my money on it.

I've had my car in the shop three times for this (currently in there now). The first two were the heat shield was loose and now this time they said they found a bracket some where (I'll find out more when I pick it up) was broke. Hope this gives you some where to start.

Mine did the same, it would have a metallic rattle when the RPMs hit around 2k. I eventually just cut the heat shield off because there is no way to really fix it, hasent done it since.

yea it's always at 2k for me too, I thought it was just the normal resonating tone of the exhaust system. Is there a way to fix this on your own? like remove the heat shield yourself or something? Sidney6199 I hope you don't mine me using your avatar, I have the same car same year...

Mine has that sound too, only around about 2,000 rpms but my bottom heat sheild ripped off my cat, and the header heat sheild I know is not loose. How many more are there?!
