i would look at a rebuild if the engine has done 60k miles before the turbo conversion, then another 60k on top of the conversion i would look at a rebuild. but then it depends on how much power you are running and how you drive it.

but thats me, i like to safe.

a local girl named kriston who put a garret turbo on her focus blew her engine on the first run down the track, and she only had 30k on it...just goes to show you that a) get the people who know what there doin to put it on and b) know that you dont have a race car and you still have to baby it.

That makes since. You can't just expect it to do miracles and not take care of it.

The turbo doesn't put ANY wear on the engine.... It's all HOW you drive it...

well the increase of pressure in the cylinders does has an effect on the engine, the stock parts aren't designed to take that much power, it doesn't mean it wont take the power just means they are likely to wear quicker, you wouldn't be saying the same when after 60k the big end bearing go (isn't major but defiantly is due to having the turbo. even the older cars that come turbo'd like 200sx s13 with the CA18DET, and the MR2 turbo their big end bearings go around 60-80k) so dont think the stock focus engine parts are up to a life time of the power.

But Most ppl either get their engine built with uprated parts or save to do so at a later date.

I would say if she blew an engine that she didnt have proper tuning or any tuning at all, I have one customer we just installed a turbo kit on his 85,000 ZX3 Zetec engine and expect it to go to 150,000

If the engine is taken care of and oil changed there is no reason the Zetec engine turbo charged to not go to 100,000 miles even beating on it

I have a SVO that i gave my Son that has 185,000 miles on it with the stock turbocharged engine with many mods

I totally agree. After seeing my dads buick approaching 240,000 miles with the only thing being replaced is the starter at 200k, I am a total believer in quality care and regular oil changes. Tuning saves motors. No doubt about it.
