Lets meet at a location that would be exactly between Boston and Miami Beach...

Let's plan this soon enough that everyone can make plans for it...

Peace...

D'Oh! everybody is talking about VIR, huh? well i kinda hoped i wouldn't have to travel that far.

Also you can bring buddies or g/f or b/f when you come.

What do i do regarding hotel arrangements? because i'm new to this kind of stuff.

well im from Philly, and I'll travel say as far as North carolina..lol I love driving, took the old focus to Florida in October.. And as far as hotel arrangements, the hell with it, pull an all nighter. If you guys are serious about this, consider maybe March or after..lol Then at least I wouldnt be showing up with a bone stock car.. but nicer weather would be cool anyway!

Well, I think it should be halfway. Last time I went to a meet, we traveled further then everyone else (3 hours) with everyone else between 30-45 minutes. NC sounds good. I like it down there. It's one of my favorite states.

zx3 chick, nc is a great idea. i could actually drive squirt there as southern roads are hospitable to the car. lot better than 9 mpg towing with the beast. there are a number of groups like tar heel sports car club that run low pressure time trial days at places like lowes motor speedway who we could hook up with. also more hospitable weather than nj usually. and best of all southern hospitality, which many people raved about this past weekend. plus of course waffle houses and krispy kremes.

It's really beautiful down there. Well, I've only been to the coastal regions (Outer Banks and the year before went to Emerald Isle---outside of Morehead City). My boyfriend and I (well me) are planning to go to the mountains down there for our honeymoon in June. North Carolina is nice and I love their accents.

poisonivory
12-03-2003, 11:06 AM
well hey we have krispy kreme here in philly.lol But as for Waffle House and Southern Hospitality (or any hospitality for that matter) i dont think so! NC sounds good. Question to the forum????? Am i going to be the only person there who's car is not significantly modded? lol

Chick
12-03-2003, 11:08 AM
Oh it doesn't matter. It's nice to meet people off here.

sounds good to me.. Im not a newby either, so I've probly chatted with few of u in the past. But i didnt come on for a bit n couldnt remember how i spelled my screename or password (phatphokus- or something close..lol) anyway, i'll be there and ill probly bring my lil guy with me, though i dont know how long i can take him kicking my seat driving from Philly to NC..

gthang
12-03-2003, 11:16 AM
my car ain't modded at all, just some tiny personalization items like a third brake light cover, door sills, carbon fiber dash kit, and a K&N air filter...

gthang
12-03-2003, 11:18 AM
and besides, i don't think i can go that far, how does VIR sound.

And i'll need information on how to get the officials at VIR to open the track for us. This is my first time organizing an event, and if it costs a bunch, let me know...

for a place like vir, you would need to hook up w/someone like nasa or tar heel who provide many track days and provide the logistics, insurance etc. we would be part of one of there timetrial or hpde groups where there are levels for all levels of experience. i have or will have by then instructors credentials with both groups. there are other groups that run days there also. when 04 schedule is posted (after 1/04) i can let you know what dates are available. nasa's vir. regions site is www.nasaracing.net. tar heel is www.thscc.com i believe. and ashley as beautiful as the banks are wait til you see western nc. gods country. you wont believe how different it is from the coast. (i do love the coast. usually run the sportfisher down to hatteras or oregon inlet every other year.)

well like i said be4, my car is not modded, so if it comes to time trials i wont subject myself to the laughter..ill just sit back and watch u guys..loll or i could always have my bro follw me in the corvette and we can jump in the fun.. [}:)]

I've seen photographs of it and seen some things on TV. I think it looks so lovely and peaceful. I love the moutains (that's why I live in them.)

well it does sound the same, except they fly on the ground. it actually stands for national auto sports association. started on the left coast and has rapidly spread. they are getting ready to overtake the scca in membership. they run the american iron series, the honda challenge and others. their biggest draw though is the hpde series, w hpde 1,2,3 and 4 classes. something for every level driver. i ran with them in june at summit point and between racers and street cars they had 400 registered participants.

VIR sounds great to me too. You could still do a car show and that type of thing with the rare commodity of a racetrack to use, it would be lots of fun and " it is in the middlw"
Ashley, I didn't know you guys had made plans to get married...congrats!..Does Aaron know?!? ..lol

i think before last weekend, the vir people might have thought that too slow, too stupids were coming to town with the focus group. what they got was a group that varied widely in age and track experience, but were polite and well mannered on and off track. so many people complimented us it was unreal. the place is so big that accomodating hundreds would not be a problem. also the foci are born to run as far as handling. the only way they are truly fast on the drag track (aka toms 11.99 car) is with ungodly mods at a very high cost. and i think its easier to show a beginner around a track than to teach them to a/x well in one weekend. we had a # of tyros last weekend. each was taken under the wing of someone w/experience and led through the proper lines. we also held "class" when we arrived fri afternoon. also used "happy lap" time for more instruction. there was not one attendee who hasnt already promised to be back. even if this g2g doesnt take place trackside, i will hound foci to attend next years g and w event. next year it will the week before turkey day, making attendence easier. heck, michaelx, a moderator at fj had only a/x previously. by sunday he was turning seriously fast laps.

I like the NC Idea have a car show for Focus & all Fords then have a convow down to Daytona, FL & have one there to.

gthang
12-04-2003, 08:16 AM
will it cost any money to reserve the track for a specific weekend?

Chick
12-04-2003, 09:37 AM
Yep viney...he's the one that asked me! Back in February.
Anyway, I'm torn between the VIR and somewhere in NC. I just cannot decide. VIR does sound really nice. And it's a lot closer.

gthang
12-05-2003, 08:58 AM
umm, so is VIR ok for everyone? So that the location is not too far for us... Wouldn't want to have it take place in NC, now would we? Because that's a full day of driving for me...

Now we need to set a date. I was thinking spring break, but my graduation ceremony is in may, and my last class is on December 19 of this year... And what do you guys want for competitions, vendors, do you guys want a group tour of the city or something.

Speaking of autocross, i thought autocross was driving on the track, not swerving between cones...

Anything else you guys want? i want to make this the best Focus Meet on the East coast, and to do so, i have to cater to everyone's interests...

And do not repost in the signup thread (East Coast Events forum). i replied to that thread so that looking at the replies on the forum list would tell you exactly how many have signed up. as of this writing, 8 people have signed up. It's not good, but it's not bad either. As the year begins we'll have more information for everyone, especially F0CID00d02 and vasili...

if you're serious about meet, let me know. i will post possible dates and work w/track.we could not afford to rent the track. rather we would need to take part in some clubs event, ie. nasa or thscc. that would be easy. all we would have to do is pay their entry fee. they would do the hard work. i could talk to track about having a dedicated area for the foci to gather in. thats what we did for last weeks g and w event. we had the area by the big bathrooms up on the hill. (for pics go to fj and check out hals shots in the race forum. best shot 11 foci going up the back esses.) typical weekend fee is about 225. that gives about 4 hrs. track time. beauty of it is you dont have to go on track. last week 11 did and about 20 just hung.

oh and ashley, the reason i picked VIR was so that you could have a "honeymoon" of sorts... and because it's so close to you... hope to see you there.

Garyk, thanks for the help. i'm a broke S.O.B and no mods, but hope to have at least something major on my car before the meet...

For dates, i'll check out VIR's website...

gthang

there's a four week break in july-august... but i don't know if any of you want to do it that late... how about the first friday thru sunday of july?

yep that was me over at fj. hal the magnificent has shot my car at summit point and vir. the event last weekend was hosted by g and w (very big in the rolex series. price cobb has won at lemans among other places. the cars in their shop, on site, are to die for.) they set up the date, insurance, banquet, etc. we just paid them 225 for early reg. and they did the rest. for spectators it was free. next year it will be the week before thanksgiving. for an earlier date we could hook up w/a sanctioning body like nasa or whomever.

Chick

Chick
12-08-2003, 10:15 AM
Well just because we say we wanna meet there now doesn't mean that we won't change our minds in the future. But yes it does sound good to me.

gthang
12-08-2003, 11:01 AM
well, we have to decide on something soon, so we can submit the schedule to the host track so they can open it for us... i think somebody here is a member of the space company that recently hopped onto the autocrossing bandwagon, and can get all of us in... LOL

gthang
12-08-2003, 11:03 AM
do you guys want a burnout competition on the schedule?

Chick

depending on when it is... I'll go... if I'm in basic trainning I won't be able to make it of course... and if I can get the weekend off during school (school should be in Goose Creek SC for almost 2 years.)

ok, will do. just got to get to an agreement on what we want. The northeast forum wants one thing and the south east wants another. Well, now that E-Town Raceway has a new road track, we might think about going there and consider the VIR road course versus the Etown road course, since the Etown course is brand new, no body has driven it yet, and therefore nobody has an advantage over the newbs in terms of track time...

gthang
12-09-2003, 08:51 AM
OK, no burnout comps, since many people are driving their cars there. who wants to go home with ruined wheels? Any way, i need some ideas on vendors and food etc.
