Good evening my fellow Focus Fanatics, I have a dire emergency. I just got back from having my 2001 Ford Focus SE being towed into a repair shop. My focus just died on me while at a yield sign. I thought for a minute that I had just took my foot off the clutch, because that is how it died, it just sputtered and stopped. Anyways, I go to crank it back up and it wont turn over. I wait a while and try again same thing. I try once more and it makes this good awful metal-on-metal sound. After pushing it out of traffic, and getting a flat bed to tow it, I arrive at a repair shop. There they crunk up my car, and it knocked like hell, but did crank. They told me it wasnt my timing belt because if it was my belts wouldnt move and apparently they were. But the guy at the shop quickly turned it off because of the noise. He thinks I have thrown a rod (very, very costly) and that I need a new engine. I have got other opinions just by talking to others and they said that I might just need a new crank kit if in fact it is a thrown rod (much cheaper $300 compared to $2000). Because it is a holiday weekend they wont be able to tell me exactly whats wrong with it until Monday, so I have to whole weekend to sit here and worry like a man on death row. Can anybody let know something that may make me feel better or give a heads up on what to expect on Monday. Maybe a cheaper way out. Also what are the symptons of a thrown rod and what causes it? Any advice you guys could give in my moment of need well be greatly apprieciated. Also is it true that if I have a thrown rod my engine wont even crank?
