I'm having so much fun with Need For Speed Underground 2, it's completely different and better than the original game.

The sound in 5.1 dolby is incredible -the Focus sounds like my MRBP exhaust and the game is huge, they literally modelled an entire city, it takes hours to drive around it all. Very cool. New mustang is in it.

Just turn off the music (ug..)

they must have modelled Vancouver, where EA is based.

Street X trick is to tune the car for Street X in the perf shop(gear ratios are shorter), then drive like an A-hole and ram the other cars.

I drive like an A-hole in the whole game, I use the other cars as wall bumpers.

Yeah, I hate that ricing is mandatory in the game, kinda detracts from it. I have the fugliest Tiburon because of the star rating requirement to progress in the game. God its ugly.

Use the focus for the Street X! Make sure you have all the tuning upgrades and get a good front bumper and spoiler. Max out all your suspension parts, aerodynamics, tire grip, and your gear ratio for max acceleration. The focus will spank anything once you get out in front and can acutally drive. I've hit lap traffic towards the end of the game when I had all level 3 performance mods.

I have beaten the entire game already. I had the game for a week and a half and had it beaten. I won most of the game with the Focus, which was given better controls than the first NFSU. The only thing that I cannot get is the widebody kits.

you probably have to go out and put every part on all of your cars to 100% the game. And you might have missed some of the hidden races.

I had the same problem when I got there, I found that you have to do some street races to move on. Or you can check the world map to makes sure that you have raced all the races. Makesure you have every visual upgrade on the car (4*+) to move on.

As for the body kits used in the game nothing is as bad as the body kits used for the SUVs.

Bug in Xbox: audio options don't get saved. I have to turn off in-game music every time. Xbox graphics for this game are much nicer than Ps2.

BTW: if you get tired of the NFSU racing, try Burnout 3: takedown, all fake cars, but the graphics and game speed are like NFSU2 on uppers. Full crash damage. You have to like any game where you can crash a city bus into a crowded intersection, and it will count up the damage cost.

How many people went straight for the Focus? I had to, and customized it in the exact image/color of my car! The only problem was that once I had everything just as I wanted it, it was rated only at 1.5 stars. I had to get the '05 Mustang GT next...its my drag racing car [}:)] . Muwahahahahaha!

Dislikes of NFSU2:
-You can beat the Hell out of your car without damage. Some may like this, but I'm for a certain realistic factor, such as the one present in NFS Porsche Unleashed. Collisions damage your car's body and systems, and you can repair these things later with performance parts (all Porsche, of course). That's probably why I don't hear anything about it anymore. NFSU2 would be near perfect (IMHO) if this feature were present. Also, wouldn't it be nice to replace your stock or "tuned" Mustang GT motor with a Ford Racing 351 small-block?
-The "Last Lap Ass-Flogging": if you're way ahead, wait until the last lap. All the cars come back for their revenge during the last lap, and will severely flog you're ass if you're not careful.

DrRay
12-07-2004, 12:38 PM
NFSU2 is an arcade game -but no game allows crash damage of real-life modelled vehicles, the manufacturers forbid it for the licensing.

Burnout 3 has crash damage, but the cars are fake (although they are pretty close). (on Xbox, there is a burnout3 demo on the NFSU2 disc). Also, the graphics of burnout 3 are incredible.

I used NFSU to model changes in my Focus before I bought parts-great view in 3D. You can add real manufacturer rims at any size, powdercoat any color, even do suspension drops of 1" or 2" and see how it looks.

I've got my Xbox hooked up to a 5 speaker dolby system-engine sounds are awesome, that's the real music.

Makes sense sure enough, but I still think NFS: Porsche Unleashed is the most realistic race-based game I've played. Sure, NFS: U2 is awesome in the "fun factor" respect (I mean, it just kicks a$$ to be able to model changes in your Focus without selling your plasma), but I am a fanatic for realism. Both games are still on my bottom shelf where I can reach them, except for NFS: U2, which is in my CD drive.

If you havent played it, don't waste your time. Burnout 3 is THE MOST KICKASS GAME EVER, I bought it and played the hell out of it for like a week straight before even blinking. I don't agree with this boycott, and I really wonder who is behind it. If it is so bad to work for EA, quit. If you boycott, that's just means EA will lay people off, same result.

They could unionize, but then a new game would appear every twelve years.

It's not like they are using children in foreign countries (nike) or cheap labor in foreign countries (cough(Ford)cough).

jsidious
12-09-2004, 03:15 PM
You're right. EA is obviously doing these things because they are a struggling upstart trying to maintain a respectable bottom line. They couldn't possibly be doing this to choke a few extra dollars of profit out of their games to artificially jack stock prices. It's really tough running a global software giant: you almost have to use slave labor to stay afloat. Those Google guys are obviously doomed, what with that whole respecting-your-employees thing that they do. Their stock will be worthless if they don't break out the whips.

The bottom line is this: Every new high-profile industry has gone through a phase where the workers, often highly skilled, are abused and overworked, but regulation, either from within the industry or without, always comes along and tears down these practices.

Once they attain it, many of them will put up with anything to keep it. However, many won't. Those that won't move on to other, fair shops, and behemoths like EA just bring on another crop of suckers. These practices are not non-negotiable, and the only power I have over EA is my dollar. As a result, they won't get it. I have a lot of mods in mind on which my money would be better spent, anyway, and isn't that what this forum is about to start with?

"...crop of suckers" meaning people EA will train at their expense, and then they will use EA experience as a line on their CV's? to go off and get a better job, or compete against EA?

Sorry, but the programming industry just has to come to grips with the fact that they had a brief period of being overpaid whiners and now reality has set in. The era of making six figures for typing code or low-res textures is over.

For one - EA Sports sucks, EA games does a pretty good job at distributing quality games, although they usually just publish for smaller design companies. EA Sports just uses their buying power to stop other companies from making games because they are afriad they are better...ie: NFL 2k5 and Madden

Now EA Sports is trying to make it so ESPN (sega) cannot make another football game.

Anyways, You need to do the outrun races with the other cars that are just roaming around in the city, u get lots of unique parts that way, including wide body kits

I'm getting frustrated at the last lap AI boost. I got the Quattro, but even maxed out it's a dog-I'm still doing better with the Focus. I keep slapping on crap all over the car, but the visual rating is still ~4.

Those run-outs around the city can take forever to win. tip: use handbrake and 180 direction a lot.

EA has historically made some really bad games, this is better, but there isn't much else for driving games out there right now. Sony keeps delaying GT4 again and again.

I don't blame EA for getting the exclusive rights to NFL, I blame the NFLfor selling it to them : money over fans.

To get wide body kits and other parts, you need to win out-runs. Listen to where the racing is by the phone, then look for the cars with wild paint jobs-beat them on outrun and you get unique parts. You don't need all the races. This game has a really long life when the whole city is opened up.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted literally makes NFSU:2 pull its pants down, and grab its ankles.

God this game is amazing, they did way more to the customization element of the game, instead of making your car look like something from SEMA it evolves into more of a rally racecar instead of a ricer.
