: Saleen: What were they thinking?

For the price you can get an SVT and Tom's Turbo kit with 239hp @ the wheels and 200+ torque.

Why did Steve even bother with this rig?

I agree....... no clue....... probably to hit up the FORD market a bit more, they already did up the mustang and explorer, why not the focus now.

well saleen has an exclusive deal with ford products. but usually they are really nice upgrades when it comes to performance and power. they seemed to just skimp with the focus and rice it out like most dorks do to a civic

and am I the only one that thinks the rear bumper fits funny and looks cheap? and that spoiler is ugly as sin :(

i like the wheels, lowering kit, flares/sideskirts and front bumper a lot though, anyone know if that front bumper fits the SVT stock foglight locations or does it take a lot of modding?

The spoiler is ugly, no doubt, that thing should be on a 747 in the sky.

The kit isn't that bad, a guy in the city here has the full kit but I haven't seen his car yet, not in person. The bumper, you would just have to re-route the fog lights to get them to place properly in the Saleen bumper. Shouldn't be a big deal. You looking at that kit?

yeah i like the front bumper a lot, and im looking at the OZ superturismo wrc 18"s so the fender flares would add a nice touch with that.

i just like how its half RS, half SVT looking

i don't like the rear bumper though, mainly because it says saleen, but i don't know if hte sideskirts/fenders would even fit on a 5 door

Yeah not sure..... one bumper that I am digging is the cervini's front end. Like the style but I am very very partial to lip kits.

Anyway, back saleen bumper is a bit 'off'.... not sure how to explain it any better....

The are getting out of date with design, this thing is getting dangerously close to a 80s Trans am.

Too many superfluos vents, the hood scoop makes no sense, the rear bumper is boxy and looks like it was done in grade 11 shop class, the swooshy graphic on the side looks like someone keyed the car, the rear wing is useless.

I slightly prefer the Roush Focus.

Roush looks nice ;)

ya Rousch knows what is going on [:)]

Rousch just weighed the car down with all that plastic and didn't do jack to the motor.
100% stock. Guy in Kansas tried to sell me a Rousch instead of finding an SVT and then tried to tell me the Rousch was faster. Damn near hung up on him, but I chalked it up to stupidity and gave him an education. He found me an SVT and we were cool.
So price an aftermarket body kit and then price the Rousch, you'll turn the other way.

I honestly don't like either to be honest. The Saleen's kit is very very big but I haven't seen it in person, only in pics just like the Rouch also. I dunno, something about both kits doesn't grab me at all.

Ford needs to make the focus so that it can go as fast as there trying to make the bodykit look

If you guys catch this week's Motorweek show..they did a little clip on the Roush Focus with 220hp - $26,395[:0]. I think it did 0-60 in about 7.0 seconds and quarter mile in the 15.3 seconds.

Impressive numbers hotfocus! This thread is mainly about 'exterior styling' from what I can gather. Either way, I agree that the Rouch would out perform a Saleen (if I remember correctly the only performance mod on a Saleen is the nitrous ready setup).

That's why I said , slighly prefer. Those Rousch rear mid-wings are ridiculous, something I would expect from Walmart brands, not a performance company. I doubt the hood scoop is functional.

Why do people keep buying rear wings that sit outside the airflow?

Does the Roush have a midwing? And how do you feel about S2's midwing? I assume you noticed that midwing in his sig pic and the fact that he calls himself "The Midwing Guy."

Both the Roush and the Saleen Focus are a disappointment to me - both companies are names that I associate with fast Fords (body style changes yes, but performance changes too) and neither one of these Focuses has performance that I would consider worthy of the Saleen or Roush names.

Roush has a midwing. I just don't see the point in putting a wing on a road car, especially one that sits outside the airflow. Wings just add drag and weight.

Yeah any midwing is basically a cosmetic upgrade and that is about it. Actually basically ANY wing on a focus is cosmetic unless your running in the WRC.

it appears saleen didn't do their homework. Believing that focus buyers are like civic buyers, del sols, and crx's.

I totally agree with this post. Take a look at those riced out Focuses and then take a look at the elegant job SVT did with the Focus and it's just sad. I can drive around in my SVT and not be embarrassed that I'm driving around some rice mobile. It seems like both Roush and Saleen are going after the F&F crowd who think big wings, garish body kits, and stupid emblems make a car look cool. Ghetto rice, both cars look like something that came straight out of an episode of Pimp My Ride.

*Sigh*... looks like the SVT Focus will continue to be the best looking and best handling Focus in the US, unless the bean counters at Ford get their heads out of their asses and realize how well the RS would do here.

With Ford pulling out of major racing, and with what I've seen of the new releases, eurosports type cars are the last thing on their minds, it seems like Ford only cares about middle aged women as a target market -seen that infomercial? It's all about space, groceries, cupholders...
