Is anyone using this to self tune?
If so what's your impression of it?

I would say 80% of Zetecs 95% SVT and Duratecs of the people that buy the PRP I end up doing there tuning anyway , It isnt as easy as it looks or sounds
The software gives you access to about everything needed and works well , If you have not done a lot of tuning before I dont think I would try it , If you have a SVT I wouldnt even think about it

I like to datalog often and tune on the fly so it's the only thing that would work for me.
I have a 10 sec car I tune and my friend a 8 sec, but if we get in a jam I'll call you.

Working on another option, no name drop or big hopes... but you never know. This guy could do it if he wanted to, hope he's interested. Might be an interllectual property issue to boot.

Noting your geographic location, I think I may know who your talking about, Popp's. If so, you'll have better luck with PRP. The EEC-V doesn't work as well with open source stuff as the EEC-IV did. For one, there aren't any public technical doc's for the V, there are for the IV, but the architecture is quite different.
If you understand how the systems interact, air, fuel spark, I don't think you'll have any issue self tuning. Most of your questions will revolve around finding things and figuring out how to sort the data you are logging ... for which I love the new LiveLink (look for my thread about it to see how to sort things and make it work well).

What other options can we have, if we wanted to be able to tune on the fly? What are the positives and neagitives about tuning on the fly?

I don't know any Popps. I'm not trying to make this a who is it? Just get some support and maybe encourage the person to help this community.
I have a Vortech high hp SC kit on a SVT that I plan to run this year. It came with a Diablo Predator/tune which loaded like a charm. I would like to be able to tune this on the fly, or at least tune. I see the CSM SW to do this is $2500 and not sure how supportive it is to the Focus. This build has 0 miles on it, idles great.
My friend has a Xious SVT with a SCT unit, that has been custom tuned by McNews. For this car I wold like to be able to datalog and tune. Again plan to run this year and don't want to be rebuilding by July.
I started this thread on the Xious car but am now concentrating on mine.
My priority is getting as much out of the Diablo as possible. Started lurking their forum.
Is anyone tuning their Diablo?

I tune Diablosport all the time , you dont want to use the diablosport on the SVT with boost , this is something you will have to find out your self
There is no one that is going to spend the time to do an emulator for the SVT Focus , the Black Oak is an issue and not easy to deal with and the sales will be to low to pay for it
The Black Oak ECU is like no other ECU out there

I understand your statements and yes from a financial perspective agree.
I asked him if he would be interested and offered to send him an ECU for free. He said no need to.. he had a few from previous work. He called it a "inbetweener". He has been enginnering ECU's since the early 80's for the Big Three. Trust me on this.

ECU's have changed substantially since the 80's. Hell just in the last 5 they've come a LONG ways.
If your curious, look at tuning options for any EEC-V SVT and what they run into for problems. All of them use the same main board, programming and parts change from 4 to 8 (injector drivers and such). Pinouts are identical though.
Unless he's worked on them firsthand, I'd write his claims off as smoke up your arse.
FWIW, SCT was started by a former Ford engineer and is still owned/operated by him. Even he's said that the new tech is getting tricky.
Also, EECTuning is a decent site for the grassroots tuning of Fords. I haven't seen much in the way of SVT talk though, least not working.
