Okay, I'm going to swallow my pride and admit that with my recent TSB-related clutch replacement, this is the first time I've ever actually dealt with a brand-spanking-new clutch. Amazingly all the other stick cars I've owned were either high enough mileage that the clutch was broken in or sold before I needed a new clutch.
Question is this - right now it's still very new, it's got about 100 miles on it. Maybe about 4-5 times, when accelerating from a stop, the clutch has made a horrid screech noise. It only lasts for a fraction of a second, and it seems to have been if I slipped the clutch a little bit to smooth out the transition from stopped to moving. Is this normal behavior for a new clutch? It hasn't made the noise in the last day or two that I've driven it.
BTW the service writer told me I only needed to go easy on the clutch for the first 80-100 miles but that seems a little low to me, I thought it was supposed to be more like 500 miles before you went nuts.

I got the TSB done couple of weeks ago on my car. I have not noticed anything related to that sound. What I noticed now is that it is sometime kind of hard to go into gears. Especially into 2nd and 3rd. And the release point on the 2nd is very sensitive. I'm taking my car back next week to have them check the throwout bearings.

Weird...my clutch is going bad too.
Based on previous experience from my old car. I was told to take it easy for about 1,000 miles and keep an eye on the brake fluid resevoir during the breakin period.

such a long break in cycle seems odd to me, considering that when you buy the car brand new (less than 15 miles on it) they don't give you such strict breaking-in requirements (although, of course, it's not recommended you go crazy, but I gave my car a thorough (ha ha) test drive before I bought it....had to make sure what it could do before I plunked almost 16K down.
I'd say 100-300 miles of babying it should be more than enough...but as for the screeching, that can't be good.

Hmmm... I was hoping maybe the screech was just a little bit of oil or assembly lube that would eventually wear off. I guess I'll continue to drive it and see.

i'm no expert, but i would think that any kind of grease or lube would prevent screeching, not cause it. screeching is usually caused by something that is slipping (and shouldnt be), or something rubbing (that shouldn't be). We all know our own cars best, though, so you'll have to be the judge of the sound and whether it is getting better or worse or should be taken in. I am hoping for the best because these new TSB parts sounded promising.

I just had my 04 SVT in for the TSB. They told me to just get used to the new clutch. [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]* that I didn't make it off the lot when I noticed some weird sound. Well it's back again...at the dealer. It now has a bad transmission. I have 4888 miles on my baby. Beware of the TSB, your SVT will never be the same.

So far mine has stopped making the noise - I don't know. Screeching is caused by something slipping, yes - so wouldn't a little errant assembly lube on the clutch face make it slip?
My service writer told me that he had the technician drive my car for 20-30 miles after installing the clutch because it was making noise (and that the 20-30 miles of driving quieted it down), maybe the screeching was the noise he was talking about. At any rate as long as the noise GOES AWAY I'll be happy. Now I just have that annoying vibration at freeway speeds to deal with.
