: TPMS programming failure issue

I have a 2013 ST and I purchased a set of 9L3T-1A180-A TPMS sensors to be mounted in my winter wheels. I also purchased the FORDTRIGGER 8C2Z-1A203-A to program them.

I was able to enter into the TPMS programming mode successfully with the method described on the TireRack .pdf (using the push-button start activation method). Each time I got the center display telling me I should go out and program my front left tire, I would put the transmitter on the sidewall adjacent to the valve stem, press the button on the transmitter, and the little LED goes on, off in 5 seconds, but no confirmation horn. I pressed it again and again and again until finally the vehicle goes out of programming mode (horn chirps twice) and tells me that the programming has failed and to restart the process. So, I restarted the process three times to no avail.

I then tried to program the TPMS by entering the programming mode using the hazard button method described on these boards. There I also successfully entered the mode, but when I deflated the tires, nothing happened (no horn chirp).

What could be wrong?

Do I have the right sensors and transmitter for a 2013 ST (9L3T-1A180-A TPMS12 & 8C2Z-1A203-A TPMS19, respectively)?

Thanks, but no. I've already tried that. While the method of pressing the hazard button six times did also get me into the TPMS programming mode, but releasing the air in the tire didn't program the sensor, it just left me with a flat.

Does anyone know if the sensor part numbers I purchased are indeed correct for my vehicle?

They are the right sensors. My guess is either you have a bad sensor or the person that mounted them broke the sensor, or simply forgot to screw it onto the valve stem and it's not actually there.

Dang, that's what I was fearing. However, when I went to try the passenger front tire first, it also didn't work.

Chances of having 2 bad sensors like that, espcially new is very low. I'd take it to another shop and ask them to check to make sure the sensors are bolted to the bottom of the valve stem. If not, take it back to the first shop and raise all hell.

If these are new Ford sensors, there is only 1 part number for all vehicles that use that style sensor. Its not a part number mix up.

So, I went to Ford to have them program it and NO DICE. They couldn't get it to program the new sensors either!

This leads me to believe that they're actually not there at all. The sensors are probably still sitting in a bag on the desk of my tire guy. I'm bringing it back tomorrow for them to break a bead and see if they're really there. I'll give you an update to this update after tomorrow.

Ask them if you can go in the shop after the break the bead and confirm that the sensor is actually there. You never know when they might try to pull a fast one on you.

The sensors are actually installed!

Here's a peek at a pic I took when my trusted tire guy broke the bead on the left-front tire:

So, now I'm totally at a loss as to why I, nor my dealer, can't get these blasted Ford sensors programmed to my ST (here's a closer pic of one of the sensors prior to install: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/tjcusumano/ST/Tires/IMG_20121104_171806.jpg).

I really don't want to buy 4 new one's nor waste the $100 or so I spent on these. I mean, all four can't be bad, right? Yet none program.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Well, I brought back out my summer wheels from storage (with the original sensors on them) and the first wheel programmed almost immediately with the Ford Trigger. So, obviously, I either purchased four bad sensors for my winter wheels (unlikely) or the Ford 9L3T-1A180-A sensors I purchased are incompatible with my ST.

So, I'm back to square one and down $100 bucks. Dang.

Just thought I'd share my conclusions.

It turned out that, though my TPMS sensors were the correct ones, they were ALL bad. I had the fortune of being introduced to a Ford TPMS engineer that had a service tool. There were no signals from any of the sensors in my winter wheels, but my summer wheels all were broadcasting fine.

So, basically I think I was intentionally sold four bad sensors on ebaY. It was so long ago, I don't have the auction information anymore, so I'm just going to live with the lights on the dash and with the lesson that if you attempt to go cheap and find an inexpensive set from a private seller rather than buying from a dealer or a good retailer (like Tire Rack), you run a risk and I lost.

BTW, I found out that the proper way of entering in the programming mode is with the "push-button start method". The "hazard button method" is only for tire rotations on your already programmed sensors.
