I am conflicted on whether to fix or junk my aging Focus. 2002 model. 198,000+ miles on the odometer. Some rust around the bottom edges. I'm staring down an estimate of $970 in suspension, wheel-bearing, and ball-joint work. In addition, the windshield is cracked and needs replacing, the a/c does not function, and the anti-lock brake feature needs repair (light is lit). Tires are shot from the suspension problem, but I do have a set of winter tires I could run for a few months.

Fix it or junk it? What would you do?

Sometimes it's hard to know when to let go.

It depends do you think you want to use the car as a winter beater or something? Do you need a/c if used only in winter? ABS can be worked with you don't really need it. My 03 doesn't even have factory abs. Suspension should be replaced if never done before for sure.

Zetec or SPI? Zetec may be worth fixing for winter beater work.

I have no use for it, to be honest. Have already replaced it. Have three vehicles in driveway now. Want to get rid of one. If I fixed it, I'd just fix it and sell it and be done with it. I had been planning to junk it, so I'll just stay the course. When I look at it on a nice, sunny day like today though, it seems a shame. From the outside, the car doesn't look like something one would just get rid of.

SPI = Junk it.

Zetec = if you want to keep it as a beater then fix it.. but even if you fix it and want to sell it you probably come out even.

How do I know whether it is SPI or Zetec?

i say junk it, what do u realistically think you could get for the focus? i havent seen your car but guessing with mileage $1500-2k? part it out, and save $900 or so from replacing parts.

sell it to someone looking for a fixer upper or beater.

if the valve cover says... Split Port Injection = SPI

if it says Zetec.. well its a zetec lol

SPI for sure. I'd remember that big, flat top on the Zetac.

well since its an spi.. I would do a couple things..

1. Junk it and get some cash or sell it as is and get some cash..

2. derby it... have some fun..

3. burn it.

4. ride it to its death then junk it.

5. take off the header, and in each port put a banana.. then rev the shit out the car.

6. burn it

7. junk it..




any of the above actions would prove to be fun. lol

sell it,there's always somebody looking for a car

sell it.. if it is safe to drive sell it for a couple hundred and somebody will be very happy.

Sucks to see your old car go but it sounds like it is probably worth it.

it seems like a running driving shitbox in my area goes for at least 1k on Craigslist. Might make more than the junk yard if you havent taken it already

i'd just sell it then. You would get more than just junking it.
