So basically, because I'm an idiot, I forgot to fully tighten the bolt on my rear shock. It was fine for awhile until it finally collapsed in and lost part of the top rubber pieces. (Replacement is on the way) Unfortunately since I don't have the replacement, I haven't been able to attempt to fix it, so it progressively seems to be getting worse. and now the black part at the top is falling to the bottom without any effort, and now just the metal spoke is sticking out mostly exposed. (excuse my lack of terminology) It's still drive-able, although I'm trying to stay off it, it's my only choice.

So the question is, when I take off the tire and jack it up, will I be able to restore it? Or am I screwed into buying a new one due to my ineptitude? Unfortunately for me, these are less than 5k miles old.

Are you saying the nut that holds the top of the shock came off and the shock shaft dropped down (now outside where it should pass through the body/chassis)? Is the top of the shock (the threaded mounting shaft that passes thru the body) damaged? I'm trying to figure out what actually happened. If it's not damaged you should be able to re-insert the top of the shock (the threaded portion) back through the mounting hole, reposition the rubber mount/bushing over the the top of the mounting shaft and put a new nut on it (it that's what can off). The old nut should, however, be in the truck somewhere as there's really nowhere else for it to go.

The nut came off and yes, the shaft dropped down, but I put it back up, now it just rattles around being held on by the metal washer and nut. I'll try and get a picture up tomorrow. The threaded part isn't damaged, but the black part you see in the picture has loosely fallen to the bottom.
