: Dust/dirt coming out of air vents?

I know this is an odd question, feel kinda silly asking, but still... Maybe this is just a Focus thing, this is my first one, can't say I've had a car do this before.

The weather here is nice enough right now so that you don't need to use the A/C, except maybe in the middle of the afternoon. Most of the time I just leave the vent fan running on low. But when I turn the A/C on, it almost takes your breath away from the amount of dust (i guess) that comes wafting from the vents. It is enough to make you and whoever is riding with you cough until it clears up after a couple of minutes.

When I use the A/C all the time, it doesn't seem to happen as bad. It's only after I haven't used it for a few days or something, and it's getting worse. I don't live on a dirt road, don't even travel down any. Anyway to help this at all? It's like sticking your head in a dirty vacuum cleaner bag and taking a good snort... [???:)]

The answer to this is a simple Cabine Filter.... They run from 10-$30 depending on brand... Here is a link to instructions on how to install it...

http://www.myfordfocus.com/how-to/cabinfilter.htm

this will tell you how to install and part numbers as well...

Good luck... FYI be careful when pulling the black plastic up as it is fragile! Expecially when cold!

Just be careful not to get seal on windshield messed up while doing it. If you do very bad things will happen.

was this filter ever offered on the focus? when I ordered mine, I didn't see that option, and at the Ford web sight to order a car, it doesn't show an option for it.

Went to the dealer this morning... I just told them I had major amounts of dust coming out of the vents, and that there was a place for a cabin filter, but there wasn't one in there.

He took a peek and just said "Well I wonder what happened to it?" and got one of the techs to stick one in. Was there for only like 10 minutes, no charge. They made it seem like there was supposed to be one in it.

This is something that you should have had to have added as an option! It wasn't offered you would have specifically asked for one! RSDNT-EVLE you got lucky as they don't include these with any US spec models!
