I have a 2001 Focus LX that recently dropped a valve seat. I have no intentions of repairing the engine. It will be difficult for me to part it out as the car is 400 miles away from where I live. It broke down on a road trip. I intend on selling it to an auto salvage facility for whatever I can get. Any recommendations for maximizing my return? I have put it up on Craigslist, but am unable to post it here as I am a new member with less than 30 posts. Please advise. Thanks.

You'll probably only get a couple hundred bucks from a junkyard.

donate it and write it off, they will tow it away regardless of its condition... google your favorite charity and see if they take cars. then just get the appropriate paper work for the write off. you will find more info on what you need once you start googling

Scrape it,,, couple hundred bucks.
No reason to cheat taxes with a donation of a broken car. Or to put the burden of repairing it upon the charity.

either one I guess.... you'll probably get about $300 out of it.

Donate it. Charities, certain ones, will use it as an opportunity to teach young men and women life skills. Win all around.

sold it for $600. tires had only 1500 miles on them. the buyer is going to drop a new engine in and probably turn around and sell it for around 3K
