: Tuner Transformation gone cheap?
hotfocus 11-09-2004, 06:33 PM Is it just me or have you guys notice that Tuner Transformation has gone cheap lately? I remember before they would do wild installs like whole turbo upgrades...now all they do is bolt on an intake, upgrade the wheels, and do some software upgrades.
1sloho 11-09-2004, 06:37 PM yeah, believe it or not they have a budget. some times its more than others and most times they go waayyyyy over budget but. yeah, u must have just watched the gti they did.
bluebisz 11-09-2004, 06:41 PM I checked a few of their shows lately, but wasn't impressed at all. There was only one where they did a full engine swap I think for a Nissan 240? That was when they made it for a drift car - full coil-over suspension, engine swap with turbo, etc.
Besides that, the rest was quite basic as you said.
What do you think about the other shows? I like quite a few from Discovery if they keep the drama down, like the Boyd Coddington hot-rods (I think it's called American Hotrod), biker build offs and such.
Toolman00 11-09-2004, 06:44 PM How about Monster Garage? That show let me down when they started getting TONS of freebies. Yeah, take this vehicle and a budget of $3000 (forget because it's been FOREVER since I've watched) and make it do this impossible task, yet it must appear stock. What's the challenge if $15000 in mods is given to them as freebies?
1sloho 11-09-2004, 06:45 PM i like watchin overhaulin and rides. tues. nights r always my car show nights. i always watch tuner transformation, nopi tunervision, overhaulin and rides. i love my tues. nights!! haha. i also like american hotrod and american chopper.
bluebisz 11-09-2004, 07:00 PM Monster garage, well, at the beggining I liked them - they had some really crazy ideas, my favorite was the Mini-Snowmobile combo ;) To be honest, I never really cared if they got a bunch of freebies, as long as the final design was cool. Lately altough I don't watch it, got quite boring for me ...
I started to watch a few shows on Speed lately, and some of them are quite good. There was one maybe last week when they custom built a high-performance car for a TV show host (Fear Factor?). That was an amazing job, some Dodge from the 60's was the base with a huge custom tuned Mopar V8. It was around like 2 in the morning - maybe I got only the replay - but I simply had to watch it ;)
microtonal 11-09-2004, 07:07 PM I seen the one with the new RX8 and they added some nitrous and some decals for the body.
The owner really didn't look thrilled and they also just kind of handed him the keys at some undisclosed location and say have fun and the credits roll.
Whereas before, they would give the guy the keys at the garage and we'd hear what he thought as the credits rolled. The exterior mod guy also wasn't happy with the decals on this car and he had no part of it.
bluebisz 11-09-2004, 07:28 PM Yeah, I saw that one too. It was practically a joke - I didn't like the decals either ...
hkysk8r07 11-10-2004, 10:28 PM but the one with the rx8 they really couldn't do much except for sound system wheels/ tires and graphics because the car had been out for just barely a month or something.
it is a good show though especially because they keep their budget of 4g or more and do alot to the cars they modify. alot better than pimp my ride. too bad tuner transformation already did a focus because i wouldn't mind getting some free upgrades.
havoc7476 11-10-2004, 11:09 PM i think those some of the older of tuner transformation that your watching.
the guy that got the focus done is a friend of ours and he is on the other focus board focuscanada.net. good guy. Steve. Vortech... *droool*
silver02svtf 11-11-2004, 02:03 AM Actually the guy who had his focus 'transformed' lives in my area. Apparently the guys did butcher his car somewhat with the install. Scratched paint, not properly tuned, rear spoiler slightly uneven etc. He ended up removing and selling that hideous flip down screen comming from the headliner. Don't remember all the details but he's not complaining the got everything for free!! On on the topic of best car show on T.V. it's got to be 5th Gear on speed [thumb]
The ZX5 episode was on again last night, so I finally got to see it.
I was pretty dismayed by what they did to the car.
While the Vortech was a good addition, the poor guy didn't even get new wheels and tires.
Just painted the stockers, and reinstalled the rubber he came in with.
Another item to note was the upgraded front brakes, but nothing was done for the rear drums.
Seemed rather half-assed to me.
That PS2 screen was hideous.
I'm sure he liked the fact that he no longer had dome lights,
and where did they move the sunroof switch to anyway?
I can't believe how many times they called the car a TANK.[?|]
Looooosers!
DrRay 11-17-2004, 03:37 PM I don't get the tank thing either, his Zx5 is 182lb lighter than a Civic Si. the one problem on the Zx is the high centre of gravity, easy to fix with springs.
These shows are filmed in Toronto, using cheap labor, they are cheap shows, like most of the programs on Speed/NASCAR channel.
What amazes me about American HotRod and American Chopper is how much people are willing to pay for low-tech crap assembled by idiots.
5th Gear is excellent. Real world, level-headed opinions and good humor. Not like the road test shows that troll around in $86000 SUVs and call them "sporty" and "affordable". pfft.
