Yeah, it's supercharged with a turbo, so what? And it's got a welded torsen diff. And a coil over cupkit . The side vents from Schucks easily add 20 horsepower. Each.

In a way it's a backhandeed compliment but still a compliment when you are a dominant car and the first brand to dominate the sport compact movement back in the '90s there will be haters.
I actually love a competitive market and keep an open mind toward all cars.

So,if you drive a Honda it's makes the drivers what? It's weird to base a person on what they drive kinda like a person's color.

IT'S AUTOMOBILE DISCRIMINATION!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Saw that a lot from the Mustang camp when I was at the strip esepcially when import/sport compacts starting making there presence known.

[idea]
So VW, BMW, Mitsubishi, Nissan never came to your mind as doing it first?
They should have. Honda was last to the party, VW was first. Remember that people back in the early 60's were modifying their air cooled cars to go faster and keep up with the bigger brother Porsche's (and Porsche's being mod'd to keep up with Ferrari and Jag's).

There is absolutely nothing that started with Honda, not even VTEC.

The reason I rag on Honda is the fact that they (and not alone) have sold people on HP being a factor in buying a 'fast' car. This has created a mindset that ignores TQ and how it's applied. For instance, with a turbo'd VTEC engine you'll have a very narrow usable TQ curve. That is why they rev to the sky, they don't make power down low.

IMO, they are a novelty. Not a car I'd ever consider fast, sporty, innovative or a first in anything.

History of Modifying
It is often said that the first motor race was as soon as the second car rolled off the assembly line!

It is certainly true that the first organised meet was held in Bexhill in 1902… and that shows how far back the heritage of car modifying goes in this country. Backyard engineers were taking cars and modifying them to race on the new motor circuits springing up around Britain. From then, and as you go forward in time, you will see the spirit of the pioneer, the great British inventor, and the skilled or simply enthusiastic home engineer making some innovative steps forward.

Much of what is good about the British motoring heritage has come from backyard tinkerers. MG, Bentley, TVR and Lotus all started as such. Lotus and TVR pioneered the use of new lighter bodies and improved the breed on the racetrack. While superb road holding is good for racing it’s benefits are also to be found in surefooted OEM vehicles a major contribution to road safety.

Hahaha, that's funny, but I also agree with the older V6 comment, if your gonna buy a Pony, fork up the little extra and get a GT, and this comment also goes for Camero, Trans Am, Charger, and Challenger drivers, thank god they don't make a Vette in a V6, because everyone who thinks there sweet would be driving one of those... I LOL'ed at the pic. But I like Hondas. Maybe more accurately, old school Hondas. I learned to drive stick on a 1986 Civic Si. I still love those old "chopped tail" Civics. If I had the money to find one and restomod, I would totally rock it as a daily driver.

I think since the ricer movement, Honda kind of became a bad taste in the mouths of auto enthusiasts. Nobody with any self respect would want to be associated with the ricer crowd.

I was once a spectator at a rally racing event. There were 2 civics among the 50 or so car field. They were the only 2 cars running that received wide spread booing from the crowds as they passed by. That may be a little uncalled for. But thank ricers for it.

^this.

There are SO many people in this town who run '95-'99 3.8 mustangs, and think they are the coolest shit around. I know one dude, rocks the over sized oakleys, flat bill hat, seat leaned back, and he drives a faded out red '98 with cloudy headlights and 3.8 he has a best friend who was just the same, cept his was a blue '96 and ended up in a tree.

I must say though, I would never buy a Honda, cause you immediately get lumped in with all the guys who have a cut off maxwell house coffee can as a tail pipe.

RonMaiden

Every brand of car has the ricey coffee can tail pipe type of people and it's definetly not restricted to Hondas and I would never not drive a brand based on a small percentage of clueless people.

Fast and the Furious didn't help but I was a part of the growing sport compact scene since '93 and the ricer crowd covers all brands and I wish I would've taken pics of some of the crap I've seen in 20 years. I've seen more than a few domestic cars running Type R stickers,a Mustang with a GT-R badge back in the late '90s,etc,etc. I'm just not a hater based on brand since that breeds ignorancy in most cases and sometimes you might miss out on something cool since I think most brands have a redeeming car whithin them.

Exactly, For every one Focus done up that way, there are about 8 Hondas. I know there are people with Subies, and Volkswagens, Lancers, the list goes on. But Honda's are the most common. Just the way it is. In all reality, I wouldn't drive a Honda because I'm a Ford man. Honda makes good cars yes, But I was raised a Ford guy, and that's all I have interest in owning because its what I like. No hate, just my preference.

There's a car that belongs to one of the landscapers at my condo that has a turbo vtec badge... It's a painfully stock Chevy Cavalier. [giggle]

You're right. They are everywhere. However, the majority of ricer cars I see on the road just happen to be Honda. They're cheap. Plain and simple. Pick one up for $2000, add the fun, and you get a car that's annoying as hell.

I rarely see a Mustang or Focus ricer car. I left a note on the one Mustang I did see in a parking lot. The note read, "you're not driving a Honda. Remember that."
