Can someone give me a link or explain the process for replacing the upper strut mount on our Focuses. The year is 2002. Thanks

Use these instructions (for replacing springs). What is referred to as the spring retainer is also known as the upper strut mount. When replacing the mount it's advisable to replace the bearing as well. The bearing usally comes in most strut mount kits but make sure to double check that it does. FWIW, Rock Auto sell a KYB upper strut mount with bearing at a pretty good price.

So do I need to rent a spring compressor to change the upper strut mount?

Yes you will need a spring compressor. You can usually borrow them from big auto parts stores (Autozone etc.) for a refundable deposit.

Ok thanks. How long should I expect for this job with the tools. I have jacks, stands, tools, and impact wrench. I will have to go rent a spring compressor.

If you have never done it before, give yourself about an hour or so for the first side. The other side should take about half as much time (do one side at a time so you always have one assembled to look at should you have a problem or get stuck on something). I'd say 2hours or so total including set up and clean up. Remember that the top three strut mount bolts only get hand tightened (about 15 ft lbs...wrist tight use no body weight on the wrench). These bolts easily break if over tightened and you'll have to start all over again.

Thanks for the information! [cheers]
