so i did my front brakes yesterday...the wear on the pads that i replaced was kinda weird....the inner pad(the one that clips to the piston was at maybe 5%, the outer pad looked to be around 50%. I know its normal for the inner pad to wear faster but that much difference in the material left on the pads raised a few questions for me...does that seem normal? I was not experiencing any braking problems other than the pads being worn out...no pulsing or noise of any kind. the pistons and sliders were free, nothing seized at all. is this normal and i am just over thinking this?? thanks,

Something is going on w/ that caliper. Did you pull out the caliper sliders & clean them & add some dieletric grease to them, just a little? What do the rotors look like? Did you replace or machine the rotors? & are they w/ in spec? Both the inner & outer should wear the same. Now the inner & outer diameter is going to wear different being a single piston caliper, thats why there is a taper to the pads to make up the difference.

When the sliders quit moving super freely, the caliper doesn't move on/off the rotor as well as the piston does.

Sometimes we miss stuck sliders during a brake job because during disassembly, we loosen up the sticky sliders before inspecting them.

both fronts were the same, pad wear looked pretty well the same on both sides...the rotors were fine, no scoring or grooves. very surprised in the condition of them for having been on the car for 50000km...had them turned and re-installed them. cleaned up the sliders/caliper mounts, greased and re-installed everything. gonna check the pads in a few thousand km's and see what the wear looks like.

Generally you should pull out and re-grease your caliper slides every 4-6 months depending upon how much driving you do. Make sure to use non-petroleum products otherwise your rubber parts will deteriate and let in moisture which will cause pre-mature pads wear.

^^ every oil change i pull the sliders and grease them, along with the ball joints, end links and all my noisy poly bushings!!
