Hey guys,

I am looking for some new tires to put on my EAP rims and was wondering if you guys think this would be a good deal?

Also if anyone has used the Blizzaks how did they work?

you can use them in the summer, might wear out a little faster, but they definitely grip the road ridiculously. i have a set of 4 used blizzaks in my garage that i used for 2 months, definitely good,

How many miles do you usually get out of a tire like this if you use it as an all season?

Also, at 65+ percent tread is $300 a good deal?

it should be fine, i dk the exact stuff, do some research on it, but i hear it should be fine aslong as youre not burning tread.
thats not too shabby. if youre just going for simple driving it'll be alright.
i had my set of blizzaks for sale, i'm getting like 45-50% tops of tread left, but it would be pointless for me to ship it to you, cuz shipping would probably make it pretty much the same if you plan to pick those up

I had mine on too late in the year one time. Really didn't like how the car felt squishy ... the tread compound is way too soft for the hot summer roads.

Alright well if it's not a good all season tire I think I am going to keep looking, thanks guys!

So I found a new set that might work:

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/pts/2995376131.html

I know they are strictly a summer tire but I have a set of factory wheels/tires to put on during the winter so not a big deal. Toughts?

i think those go for around $100 new. So not bad if they are in decent shape. You can probably talk them down from that some too.

Blizzaks are a great winter tire and have tread compounds as soft or softer than a race tire (unlike a race tire a Blizzak does, however, have special compounds that do not harden in the winter like regular tires do. They stay soft all the time). They'd be a loosey choice for an all season tire. The warmer the pavement gets the softer, greasier and squirmier the tire becomes. One summer is enough to ruin a new set. Use (and save) them for their intended purpose.

Tire rack has a new set (4) listed for ~$472 and the guy says they are almost brand new. Think I might get a tread depth gauge to bring with me to measure them..... Don't wanna get ripped off since the penny test seems to be less than accurate. He seems pretty firm @ $200 which is only 42% of the origional cost so if the tread is as good as he says I think $200 would be a fair price but I could be wrong.

Im not a tire expert, but just something to keep in mind is the date (week/year) on the tires, so check that out.

Good advice man, I never thought to ask about that.

The tire pictured also appears to have an unusual wear pattern on the far right side of the tread. Definitely check that out. That can lead to accelerated wear, balance issues, and/or lots or road noise.

I didnt know either until recently.

4-6 years old is as old as you should use (from what Ive read).

So if the tires have been sitting around, or stacked in the guys shop waiting for a project, who knows.

Ha ha I just looked at it and I can't tell from the pic. I don't think those are going to happen either because I would have to drive quite a bit out of my way to go look @ them and then who knows if I would even buy them.

Edit: looks like they are from 2004 so I don't think I will be going with them. I will keep looking and I really appreciate all the help you guys have given me so far, some what of a tire noob over here.

I`d like to know how you determined that? I magnified the pic 500% and still could not make out the date stamp on those tires.

Ya I was actually thinking of getting Fuzions because I have read (almost) nothing but good reviews but I also want an all season tire that is not directional so I get even wear when I rotate them instead of just moving front to back.

Thats awesome bro glad you were able to catch that before buying...!

Ya Man I really appreciate your info on that, I would have made a big mistake if I bought them.

Ha ha sorry I emailed the guy and he told me.

Alright guys so I don't think I am going to find what I am looking for (tire wise) on craigslist so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good all season tire.

Obviously I would like a tire that gives me the most bang for my buck but I would also like a tire that would last me a while. The tire size I am looking for is 215/45/17. Can I get some suggestions?

Also, what does tire rack charge for shipping and once shipping is figured into the price.... is it about the same to just buy from a local shop?

Thanks Guys!

Tire rack is expensive. Look at discount tire. They offer lowest price guarantee and there warranty is amazing.

Holy wow you are right! These Kumho's are cheaper @ discount tire and that doesn't even factor in shipping!

Plus I am guessing Discount tires has coupons too. Looks like I know where I am getting my tires from at least. Plus I go to Mankato all the time and wouldn't you know it...... They have a store there!

Sorry I didn't see this before I posted, I will check them out.

They look good, might have to spend the extra $$ to get a better tire. Even though I know once I do this I will get a nail in one of the tires.

EDIT: Tire rack does have them cheaper so I submitted a:

I have had a nail in my side wall for a month now. Remarkably strong tire I drive it just as hard with the nail in the side as I had before. You can actually see where I am wearing the nail away

Ha ha why don't you just fix it? Also those are directional tires correct? You wouldn't be able to Chris cross from front to back would you?

Alright guys, just ordered a set of (4) Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires from Discount Tires over the phone and I am going to have them put on next week Saturday! Total cost out the door was $570 for:

- Install
- Stem replacement
- Lifetime Rotation
- Lifetime balance

EDIT: Tire rack does have them cheaper so I submitted a:

Rich from Discount Tires called me (why I ordered over the phone) and told me they would match Tire Rack's price per tire!

Tire Rack Continental Extreme Contact DWS: $114/tire
Discount Tire Continental Extreme Contact DWS : $125/tire

He also mentioned they have a $100 rebate (pre-paid Visa card) thru Sunday so I had to jump on the offer!

Much props for you guys helping me with my decision, I really appreciate it!

Glad you went with them! I had nothing but great experiences with them. My father ordered 2 tires from them about 4 years ago and had a replacement tire warranty. He contacted them 3 months ago, telling them he had a nail in one and they had then discontinued. So to compensate they let him get any 4 tires for any size for just the price of the road hazard certificates. He ordered 4 tires for me for my focus, 500 dollar tires for a price of 50 and change! You just can't beat that kind of customer service! Good luck!
