i have 18's on my car and I need new tires. the size is 215 40 18.

Definitely Yokohama.

From a performance standpoint, both are considered good tires. The 452's don't have a reputation for longevity (wear) but then few summer tires do. Any tire manufacturer has good and bad tire lines. For example, Falken more or less invented the affordable super high performance street tire years ago and continues with the RT615K (still considered one of the better street performance tires made especially from a price standpoint). On the other hand, I've also had plenty of Yokohamas that were pure garbage. I can say that the Miata crowd thinks highly of the S Drives, but what's good on a small lightweight two seater may perform much differently on a larger car.
