: question
XfocusX 10-20-2004, 09:37 PM i have my tb, intake and exhaust. i would get a header but i need to stay SMOG legal. would the next move be to buy:
cam
cam gear
plugs
wires
and look into a good p&p
(50 shot)
or is all that over rated? i know the p&p is worth it, but will anything else make a difference, one that i will notice? i am not trying to run 1/4's or anything, just a lil more pep in the step. the foci in question is a daily driver
blueoval 10-20-2004, 09:51 PM My throttle body should be here in a few days, once I have the intake and throttle body on I am purchasing either a more agrrasive cam (stage 2) or upgrading the entire exhaust system w/ race header. Plugs and new wires would be a good start, they should increase the gas milage a little which is always a good thing.
Focuspunk5 10-21-2004, 09:16 AM what is a good TB for the SPI
blueoval 10-21-2004, 10:30 AM I had just ordered a throttle body from www.myfordperformance.com it is a 60mm throttle body that would let you use any aftermaket zetec air intake. I think it sells for like $250 plus tax. But if you are thinking of buying one you may want do buy it soon because they'er starting to run low.
P.S- you can also find them at focus-central.com

Plugs, then caM. wIRES ARE GOOD AND ALL BUT IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK IT'S THE PLUGS AND THEN CAM. wITH THE CAM SHOULD BE THE ADJ. GEAR. i THINK i SAW ONE FOR SALE IN THE CLASSIFIEDS...Yes, I hit the caps lock accidently. No, I'm not going to fix it.
blueoval 10-21-2004, 07:55 PM Thanks waterboy for sharing the KNOWLEDGE. I have a ? about installing the TB, b/c it should be here tommorrow, do I need to disconnect the battery so that way the ecu resets or is this not needed ? Thanks
1sloho 10-21-2004, 08:06 PM well u should disconnect the battery so the car recognizes the mod immediatly when it resets. it helps to get the most from the mod. but when i did my t/b, i didnt disconnect my battery. i havent noticed a difference from then and now and its been almost a year.
blueoval 10-21-2004, 08:10 PM Heah thanks for the info. Now I can't wait for it to arrive, then I am going to have to wait intill I have some time to install the TB and the intake.[thumb]
XfocusX 10-21-2004, 08:50 PM undoing the neg bat cable is a good move. it resets the ecu as mentioned above. the "gain" you will feel is in throttle response, not in hp or torque. when you depress the throttle you will now (post install) feel a snapy gas pedal. you press less and get the same get up as before. that means at half open throttle you are reving more like 2/3's. great for feel. love it!
late.
H2O-
what cam do you recomend. and i have been in talks with the chap on the marketplace for his gear.
waterboy 10-21-2004, 09:36 PM I have the Escortfocus.com stage 2 ( I think) kit. It has the cam, lifters, double valve springs and new seals. It'll set you back about $525. It'll rev well past 7200 (mine is pulling to that and would pull past of my chip wasn't set at 7200). Now to really get the benefits of this cam you will need to do the port and polish, but I ran mine for 7 months without the P&P and still was quite happy. A chip is a good idea, and the SCT is the best thing out there. I know that we don't have money to burn. It's taken me four years to get where I am. Most of it was due to the lack of parts available and having to either modify or make parts to fit. But once we do the easy stuff it gets pretty pricey from there.
Vodka is good. I need to go sleep this off......[xx(]
Foci5.0 10-21-2004, 09:46 PM I would go with cams for next upgrade.
XfocusX 10-22-2004, 07:37 PM so the escortfocus stage 2 cam kit. and a sct chip huh. and i will be cool for a while till the time to p&p? will/should i need a cam gear to go with the cam kit?
blueoval 10-22-2004, 07:47 PM A cam gear is recommended for that you can adjust the timing of the cam to get greater gains from the stage 2 camshaft upgrade. I wish I knew how to do a p&p myself b/c this problaly gain quite a bit of hp back.
waterboy 10-23-2004, 08:57 AM The gear is a good idea. EFP recommends that you run their cam a 4* retarded.
Retarded, how fitting......
I did my own P&P and while it took some time it was quite rewarding. It's not something I recommend to everyone, I just said f-it and went after it.

XfocusX 10-23-2004, 03:53 PM so the escortfocus stage 2 kit will be good with the minor bolt-ons i have?(catback,intake,t/b) a bdr gear and a superchip. i will be getting a udp as well. well there is my christmas list then. thanks guys. correct if i am wrong^^
blueoval 10-23-2004, 05:22 PM That's a helluva christmas list. I just wish I had the extra cash to get the escortfocus stage 2 upgrade but the gf is sucking the money out of me, also winter simester tuition is do in about a month ($5,600 that comes out of my pocket) but once it's paid I am going shopping for a good exhaust setup.
waterboy 10-23-2004, 05:52 PM It's almost like you should put on the gear, cam, and SCT at the same time. The gear for the retarded timing, the cam for power and higher revs, and the SCT to maximize the cam and fuel/air ratios.
I did my chip first, but only because I was testing SPI chips for FocusSport and Diablo. Then was the gear, then the cam. When the SCT came out then I was all over that. Then came the port and polish since I was getting all I could from the setup I had. Now there's a turbo in the mix, too. It's a progression. I know that most of us don't have the knot to do all of these things at once, so get what you can when you can and enjoy!!
XfocusX 10-24-2004, 10:57 AM will do. this is the first car i have been doing work on myself, and trying to lear as i go. i did not want to pull a goober move and instal a mod the only works after something else is modded. you know what i am saying? i want to make sure i am going in a logical order so as to take advantage of the mods as i go.
so i will be aquiring all the items (chip, gear, and stage 2 cam) before i do any installing. then following that pocket book hit i will begin to save (or drop a set), whichever come first, for a good ol P&P!
