: timing belt change?????
Buhda420 02-11-2012, 03:39 AM Okay I mentioned not too long ago that I just purchased an svt, upgrading from kona zx3.... So the svt has 109000 miles on it but looks extremly good...... And when I was reading the schedule maintenance guide it never once mentions the timing belt....... So is that really needed to be done at this time or do I just flush and change all fluids????? Or really what do I do?????? Cause I actually have money to spend so I just need to know what I should really spend it on............. Thanks for all the help guys.......
02fordsvt 02-11-2012, 07:07 AM Timing belt change for the Svt is about 100,000 miles.
SVT3658 02-11-2012, 08:01 AM change the belt/tensioner/etc ASAP.
It was supposed to be done at 80k. If you don't have any record of it being done, be on the safe side and get it done. If that belt or tensioner lets go, you're going to lose your whole top end. The SVT engine is an interference engine, if it loses timing the valves and pistons will smash together and cause a LOT of damage
svtf1417 02-11-2012, 09:44 AM This is the thread I started a while back. Im not sure why it doesnt show up anymore unless you search for it, but this is what happens when SVT timing belts snap. The pics tell the nasty story, and has less miles then yours. Its not just mileage ppl, its their AGE too. Cost the kids dad about 3500 for everything.

id10t 02-11-2012, 10:50 AM Don't drive the car until you get the belt changed. It's not a hard job, there are videos on you tube covering it, and the parts are not that much. Do the water pump while you're in there, and inspect the right motor mount too.
Do it now.
bespurcell 02-11-2012, 10:58 AM My car only has 69k and I just ordered mine.
svtguy88 02-11-2012, 10:26 PM As everyone said, change it if you don't know it's been changed. It's much cheaper and easier than doing head work...
z28forlife 02-12-2012, 12:55 AM Change it now!!!!!....Arnold Schwarzenegger voice.
macdiesel 02-12-2012, 08:18 AM Change it soon. Had Ford do mine at 112k.

Buhda420 02-12-2012, 11:25 PM Cool thanks everyone

What is tensioner...ext....... Is that going to be done with belt or I got to ask mechanic to fix that as well........[ffrocks]
ukfan50 02-13-2012, 03:11 PM Ford says to replace at 120K miles? Clarification???
FLYLOW 02-13-2012, 04:53 PM ^ no sir. many say 70 others say 90 but def not 120
svtguy88 02-13-2012, 09:21 PM Ford says to replace at 120K miles? Clarification???
For some reason 120k stuck in my head too. I'm nowhere near my manual, or I'd look. Either way, do it before then.
ukfan50 02-14-2012, 08:24 PM I'm def gonna replace it here this summer, has 84K on it. For some reason I thought I saw in the SVT owners manual 120K miles.
bespurcell 02-14-2012, 08:56 PM The manual does say 120k but, the timing belt rarely makes it that far.
blackonblacksvt03 02-14-2012, 10:35 PM mines at 97k just changed the oil will order a new timing belt and do it with my next oil change but i checked mine at 80k when i got it and it looked really good then
HilloNative 02-15-2012, 02:05 AM maybe is 120k kilometers, the focus was made in mexico . LMAO
Buhda420 02-15-2012, 05:50 AM So what's the difference in the timing belt and the cam belt???????? Sorry for the dumb ??? But I am looking stuff up on tassels and I see there cam belt but no timing belt..... N has anyone put there underdrive pulpy set and serpentine belt????????? If so how is that working out for you.........
blwnsvtfocus 02-15-2012, 10:37 AM I believe timing and cam belt is the same??? As far as miles and changing the timing belt, at this point if its stock with even 20k miles it could still fail! You do not want to find out the hard way...
svtguy88 02-15-2012, 01:13 PM I've never heard "cam belt" before, but it sounds like a timing belt to me...lol
p0sitivevibez 02-15-2012, 02:07 PM I just bought my SVT with 92k and I'm going to do mine before I drive it anywhere along with water pump. Anyone know how long a shop will take to do it? Way too sensitive a task for DIY it seems
macdiesel 02-15-2012, 04:29 PM A few hours, and the water pump can be done independent of the timing belt.
blackonblacksvt03 02-15-2012, 09:42 PM yeah a shop will charge around 3 hours to do the belt and i would not change the water pump if it looks ok and is not leaking spend the money you save there and flush the coolent
