: New SVT owner, just a few question

I just got a 2002 silver 3 door w/ red interior 110,000 miles, fully optioned. previous owner was probably a 16 year old kid, really messed it up and it has some minor body damage.

my questions are-
what body parts are actually svt-specific. i know the bumpers, side skirts, door trim and mirrors are, but what about the hood, etc.?

is it worth it to put a new audiophile head unit in it? or replace it with aftermarket? i just dont know how hard it is to get the steering wheel controls to work with the new units. i know you can buy that box from crutchfield though.

same question with the suspension, which parts are svt-specific and shouldn't be replaced with zx3 parts, i want to keep it as original as possible.

also, how hard is it going to be for me to find a set of silver mirrors?

thank you in advance

First of all, welcome to the site.

Basically as far as the body goes, the Svt is a Zx3 with a body kit. Everything is the same except for what you listed. The hood is the same.

is it worth it to put a new audiophile head unit in it? or replace it with aftermarket? i just dont know how hard it is to get the steering wheel controls to work with the new units. i know you can buy that box from crutchfield though.

You can get headunits that can be hooked up to the steering wheel controls. I don't know how hard it is or what you need, but getting an aftermarket headunit really depend on what you want from it. Good headunits are much better that the standard units, but if you don't need that, you can get units cheep from others who have taken them out of their cars or get one from a salvage yard.

same question with the suspension, which parts are svt-specific and shouldn't be replaced with zx3 parts, i want to keep it as original as possible.

The suspension are all switchable between all first gen Foci except the wagon. In other words, you can put a Zx3 part in an Svt.

also, how hard is it going to be for me to find a set of silver mirrors?

Try the Buy/Sell/Trade section on this forum. I needed to replace one of my mirrors, and had one bought within a week of posting a want to buy thread.

In my opinion, the audio controls for the left hand are only good in a automatic trans car.I only use them know as stress buttons once in a while..or pretend they are a weapons system for taking out slow drivers in front of me.

Lol.

That's actually true. I thought I would miss mine when I switched headunits but it didn't take long at all to get used to it. Your hand is near or on the shifter anyways so what's lifting your hand up a little higher to change volume. The one part I do miss is the automatic change in volume with speed. You may be able to get headunits that can compensate for this but I don't know. Just another thing to think about but it doesn't take long to get used to anything.

are all parts 1998-2007 interchangable? or do some things change in like 2005?

Some things change in 2005 and there are some suspension changes in '06.

I like the audio controls. They're right where my left hand normally is. If I'm driving around town I use the controls on the unit because my hand is usually resting on or near the shift knob. On hte highway of if I'm on a road without many lights and have both hands on the steering wheel I always use the wheel mounted controls.

welcome! Congrats on your purchase...

Id like to point out that the suspension on the zx3 and the SVT are different. Shocks and Springs. Of course you can interchange them. but i recommend if you change one change em all. Do not put one set of zx3 springs on one side and svt on the other lol [wrenchin] Also you can pick up the frpp dampers from tousley for under 200 bucks. those are svt specific.

Thank you, thats what i was trying to get it is if they were actual SVT shocks they put on it so i don't just go down to kragen. I will def be changing everything back to what came with the car originally.

finally fixed the window and rinsed it off real quick, what would you guys pay for this? 111,000 miles, needs a whole new svt body kit pretty much.

i guess this hood is carbon fiber then? cant find anything by fiber images that isn't CF, just didn't see why someone would paint it.

Both PAC and Scosche make interfaces. I use an older PAC for my Alpine and it works great....

You can get the steering wheel controls to work on an aftermarket radio but u will need a special module that is about 50 bucks and has to be hooked up by a professional because they have to program it too the specific model of car, this can be purchased from ur local audio/video installation place!
