I'm new to the thread and looking to buy a new Focus by summer.
I can't decide between the SE option and the SEL and I can tell the difference in some areas but not in others, can ya'll help fill me in?
I also can't decide between leather seats and cloth, I plan on getting a black 2012 and would really like the Arctic interior package..but I know how HOT leather gets especially in the Alabama sun...and also that it cracks after years of use...so any advice?
It is much appreciated!! (PLease and thank you!)

First of all welcome to the FF forum. One of the most informative and opinionated sites on the internet.
Congrats on your choice for a 2012 Focus. We have a whole crew of people who will chime in shortly about their 2012 purchase and help you decide.
Leather is a nice option and Ford has upped the anti on this interior. If your car is not garage kept then I might suggest investing in leather conditioner if you choose to go this route. I have a 2004 car with leather and it shows minimal wear but is well taken care of. It has seen some of the Texas heat and has survived as yours will to.
Again welcome to the boards and we look forward to pictures of your purchase.

Thanks so much! I've already read some posts and I appreciate the input on the leather. It won't be until around May when I am able to purchase this car (saving up for a down payment) and also will hopefully be starting school then as well.

Also, see what the tint laws are in Alabama. A good quality tint will help keep the sun at bay during the summer and use a sun shade for the front windshield when you park in direct sun.

Hi and welcome!
I would check in the packages in the SE because some do not include things like cruise control and sync. These are some things that are standard on the SEL. The build and price on the website is a real nice way to price options
(The 203a package is the one that has both)

I had leather seats on my 08 VW GTI. When I picked this car out, I specifically made sure I did NOT get leather. It looks good, but that's as far as the benefits of leather go.
I had tinted windows dark enough to not heat up the seats, but I couldn't see shit at night so I had to remove it. Even in the Cleveland sun those seats were so hot you could fry eggs on them.
It was pretty bad, I'd recommend not getting them.
