: Tranny Swap pics
dachris 10-16-2004, 01:57 AM Hey
I have a 2001 zx3 with an ATX and am planning to change it to an MTX. A friend who has seen this done in other cars told me that the job may not be the same as factory. He told me it looked kind of weird.
Is this the case with the focus??
Could the people that have done this already post a couple of pictures of the outcome???
(interior, etc.)
Thanks for the help!!!
CDSilver5DoorSVT 10-16-2004, 10:53 AM Look at a 5-Speed Focus engine bay and interior, your will look exactly the same. There is no cutting or anything, heck the consoles are the same between MT and AT........
thrill5one6 10-16-2004, 05:14 PM dachris, email me at thrill5one6@aol.com and i will send u my pics
m0nny 10-17-2004, 01:28 AM Its in the dash. You would have to get a aftermarket tach. You dont read rpms in the automatic. I've only seen this in some focus's and in my moms corolla.
m0nny 10-17-2004, 01:29 AM It doesent show you the rpms on the automatic. [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]*
Replace my third sentence.
CDSilver5DoorSVT 10-17-2004, 09:51 AM You don't have to have a tach with a Manual, I've seen many cars in the past not have them..........but if you need one, buy a cluster with a tach and swap it...........still no cutting, the only difference will be the tach in the cluster, all will still look stock..........
focaltech 10-17-2004, 01:28 PM Considering your in PR and I imagine parts aren't readily available. Maybe you should look into building up your auto and just leaving it there.
What are your plans, do you just want a 5 speed?
dachris 10-17-2004, 04:25 PM Yes, I do want a 5-speed. And after that I plan on going FI. Building up my auto is not an option. I have looked into it many times and it will end up costing way more than a tranny swap.
hey...
welcome...
i know you....
so....good luck finding a manual tranny....
if you find one...LMK
m0nny 10-17-2004, 10:22 PM Get a new car :/ Trade with someone. Thats what I would do seems like too much work.
thrill5one6 10-17-2004, 10:42 PM i dont kno why people make such a big deal about a tranny swap. i had it done and it was the best thing i ever did. cheaper then trading in the car or buying a new one or building the transmission. maybe i just got a good deal but $750 for a wrecked focus and $900 for all the installation, thats $1650. to me it was well worth it and the most economical way to get what i wanted b/c the only reason i was looking at other cars was b/c i wanted a manual transmission. if anyone has any questions about my swap email me at thrill5one6@aol.com

Thats interesting you mention that, that price seems really low to me. I guess because it only comes out to be 10 hours for labor and most shops charge 4-6 hours labor for a clutch job which is a simple removal/installation process. So that only leaves a few hours for doing the other work. I guess its possible. I am curious where you got a complete junked focus for $ 750 though? I am in NJ and salvage yards here don't sell stuff like that.
Sonicbluezx3 10-18-2004, 01:33 PM hey do you think it would be possible to put the SVT's tranny on a regular zx3 focus?
CDSilver5DoorSVT 10-18-2004, 04:09 PM Yep........Use the tranny,Clutch,Shifter and Cables, and Axles.......It'll work........
dachris 10-18-2004, 06:26 PM Is there anyone with some pics out there??
I still haven't got any pics....

well i'm not so sure about this...
i have heard that its too hard....
Turtle 10-19-2004, 03:35 PM I want a 6speed in my ATX sedan . . . is that gonna be a problem? [hihi]
brads03zx3 10-19-2004, 07:01 PM From what I have heard from V6, the mtx to getrag should bolt right up, if you take all of it (linkage...clutch...etc). In other words, it shouldn't be any harder than an atx to mts swap (except finding the svt tranny). Don't bash me cuz I don't really know.
